👵🧓 Extra $6,000 Deduction for Seniors – 2025–2028

If you’re 65 or older, you’ll get an extra $6,000 deduction on your taxes from 2025–2028.

Here’s what to know:
✅ This is in addition to the current extra standard deduction for seniors.
✅ It’s per person – so a married couple where both are 65+ can deduct an extra $12,000.
✅ Applies whether you itemize or take the standard deduction.

💡 Important: This is a deduction, not a tax exemption. Social Security benefits are still taxable if your income is over certain limits—this new deduction simply lowers your taxable income.

📊 Income limits:
– Phases out if your income is over $75,000 (single) or $150,000 (married filing jointly).

📝 Requirements:
– Must turn 65 on or before Dec. 31 of the tax year.
– Must include your Social Security Number on the return.
– Married couples must file jointly to claim it.

🚗 No Tax on Car Loan Interest – New Deduction for 2025–2028

Buying a new car? You might be able to deduct the interest on your car loan from your taxable income.

Here’s how it works:

Deduct up to $10,000 per year in interest paid on a qualifying new personal-use vehicle loan.

Only for loans started after Dec. 31, 2024.

Vehicle must be:

New (first use starts with you – used cars don’t qualify)

Personal use (not business/commercial)

Under 14,000 lbs

Assembled in the USA (check the sticker on the car or use the VIN lookup tool on the NHTSA website).

Lease payments don’t qualify.

If you refinance a qualifying loan, interest on the refinanced amount can still qualify.

💡 Income limits: Deduction phases out if your income is over $100,000 ($200,000 if married filing jointly).

📝 Other rules:

You can take this deduction even if you don’t itemize.

You must include your car’s VIN on your tax return.

Bottom line: If you buy a qualifying new car between 2025 and 2028, you could save money on taxes just for paying your loan interest.

⏱ No Tax on Overtime – New Deduction for 2025–2028

If you get paid overtime, there’s good news! From 2025 through 2028, you can deduct the extra part of your overtime pay from your taxable income.

Here’s what that means:

Applies to the “half” part of time-and-a-half pay (the extra above your normal hourly rate) that’s required by law under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Let’s say your regular hourly rate is $20/hour.

Your overtime rate is $30/hour (time-and-a-half).

Of that, $20/hour is your normal pay, and $10/hour is the extra “half” you get for working overtime.

Under this new deduction, you can deduct that $10/hour extra pay from your taxable income.

So, if you worked 100 overtime hours in a year, you could deduct $1,000 (100 hrs × $10/hr).

Overtime pay must be reported on your W-2, 1099, or another official IRS form.

Maximum deduction: $12,500 per year (or $25,000 if married filing jointly).

Deduction phases out if your income is over $150,000 ($300,000 if married filing jointly).

You can claim this deduction whether you itemize or take the standard deduction.

💡 No Tax on Tips – New Deduction for 2025–2028

Good news for workers who get tips! Starting in 2025, you may be able to deduct up to $25,000 of your tips FROM your taxable income.

Here’s the gist:

Applies to both employees and self-employed workers in jobs where tips are common (IRS will release the official list by Oct. 2, 2025).

Only voluntary cash or card tips (including tip sharing) qualify.

Tips must be reported on your W-2, 1099, another official form, or on IRS Form 4137.

Deduction phases out if your income is over $150,000 ($300,000 if married filing jointly).

You can take this deduction even if you don’t itemize!

🚫 Not eligible:

Self-employed or employees in “Specified Service Trades or Businesses” (like certain professional services under IRS rules).
