When you see your tax professional, be sure to say THANK YOU…

(If they’re not already in the Bahamas catching their breath 😄)

This season takes a lot out of them—long hours, tight deadlines, and a whole lot of number crunching. A simple thank you goes a long way… and let’s be honest, showing up with a coffee doesn’t hurt either. ☕️

They’ve earned a little appreciation after keeping everything on track for everyone else.

📣 Tomorrow is Tax Day!

Don’t let it sneak up on you! ⏰
Your tax return is due TOMORROW.

✔️ Filed already? You’re ahead of the game—nice work.
✔️ Not quite ready? An extension can give you more time to file…
🚨 BUT remember: it’s not extra time to pay any taxes owed.

If you still need help getting things wrapped up, we’re here to make it simple and stress-free.

Is “extension” really a dirty word? 🤔

Not at all—when it’s done right.

Filing an extension simply gives you (or your tax professional) more time to file your return… not more time to pay any taxes owed.

👉 The key? Make sure your payment is submitted by the deadline.

Do that, and there are no penalties for filing an extension—just a little extra breathing room to get everything filed accurately.

With the season fully booked on our end, extensions can be a smart and stress-free option if you’re running out of time.

Have questions about whether an extension is right for you? We’re always happy to point you in the right direction!

🚩 A Quick Tax Season Warning: “Ghost Preparers” 🚩

As tax season ramps up, we’re seeing more “preparers” online promising huge refunds and guaranteed results. If it sounds too good to be true… it usually is.

Here’s what to watch for:
⚠️ Some preparers will file a return without signing it — often marking it as “self-prepared.”
⚠️ You may get the refund, but if the IRS audits the return, the preparer disappears and the client is left holding the bag.
⚠️ Promises of massive refunds or fees based on a percentage of your refund are major red flags. Contingent fees like “I got you $15k, so I take 10%” are generally not allowed.

The IRS even maintains a list known as the “Dirty Dozen” — arguments and schemes that have been repeatedly shut down in court and are no longer up for debate. Using them can lead to serious penalties, not savings.

👉 Bottom line: A legitimate tax professional signs their work, stands behind it, and charges transparent, reasonable fees — not miracle promises.

If you ever have questions about whether a tax strategy or preparer is legitimate, ask before you file. It’s much easier to avoid a problem than fix one later.

🩺 Health Insurance Form Reminder (Form 1095-A)
If you had health insurance through the Marketplace, you’ll need Form 1095-A.
✔️ This form is not usually mailed
✔️ It must be downloaded from healthcare.gov
✔️ The IRS will reject your return if it’s missing
This is one of the most commonly overlooked forms we see each year, so it’s worth double-checking now.

🏛️ Missouri Tax Law Updates
📈 Capital Gains Deduction (Missouri Only)
Missouri has passed a law allowing capital gains to be deducted from Missouri taxable income.
• Applies to Missouri state returns only
• Does not affect federal taxes
• Effective 1/1/2025
🏠 Property Tax Credit Expansion (Circuit Breaker)
Missouri also expanded the Property Tax Credit — a much-needed update.
• Applies to homeowners and renters
• Effective 1/1/2026 (not this filing season)

More details here:
👉 Bottom line: A little awareness now can prevent rejected returns and help you plan ahead for upcoming Missouri-specific tax savings.
If you’re unsure whether any of these apply to you, just ask — that’s what we’re here for. 😊

📢 Heads-Up on EITC & CTC Refund Timing!

If you're claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) on your tax return this year, there’s an important update about when refunds will be sent out.

The IRS cannot issue refunds for EITC or ACTC claims right away — they must wait to verify those credits before releasing funds. Because of that rule, most refunds tied to those credits won’t be available until around March 2, 2026 for taxpayers who chose direct deposit and have no other issues with their return.

🕒 Why the delay?
This waiting period is part of federal tax law designed to reduce fraud and ensure the credits go to eligible taxpayers.

💡 What you can do:
✨ Make sure your return is complete and accurate
✨ Choose direct deposit to get your refund faster
✨ Track your refund with the IRS “Where’s My Refund?” tool or the IRS2Go app

If you’re expecting one of these credits, plan for a little extra patience — and feel free to reach out if you need help understanding what this means for you!

There’s been a lot of talk about IRS payments and whether mailing a check is still an option — so let’s clear it up!

👉 Short answer: Yes — for now, you can still send a check to the IRS if you owe taxes. But there are big changes happening in how the IRS handles payments and refunds.

📆 Starting with the 2025 tax returns (filed in 2026), the IRS is moving toward electronic payments and refunds as part of a broader modernization effort. While paper checks for payments are still accepted today, the IRS is expected to require most payments to be made electronically after 2027 unless you qualify for an exception.

💡 Why this matters:
• Direct deposit is now the fastest, safest way to get your refund.
• If you don’t provide direct deposit info on your 2025 return, paper checks may still be issued after a delay.
• Electronic payment options like IRS Direct Pay, debit/credit card, or tax software withdrawal are more secure and easier to track.

📌 Tip: Even if checks are still accepted now, planning to pay or get refunds electronically will save time and help avoid delays — especially as the IRS continues updating its systems.
