Monday Tax Tip: keep your donation receipts - even if you don't itemize.

New for 2026: many people who take the standard deduction can STILL deduct charitable gifts. For years the habit has been tossing receipts because "I don't itemize anyway." This year, break the habit. Keep every acknowledgment letter and ask me at tax time - it may be money back you weren't expecting.

Monday Tax Tip: 20 minutes of hurricane prep your accountant approves of.

We're in season, neighbors. This week: photograph or video your home, valuables, and business equipment - and get digital copies of your tax documents somewhere that isn't inside your house. (My secure upload page works for exactly that: spargurtax.com/upload.html)

If a declared disaster ever touches SWFL, those photos are the difference between a documented casualty-loss deduction and an argument with the IRS. Take them on a sunny day so you never need them.

Monday Tax Tip: TODAY is Q2 estimated tax day.

Two ways to be on time: IRS Direct Pay (directpay.irs.gov) before midnight, or a check POSTMARKED today - the postmark counts as your payment date, so the post office counter can still save you.

Monday Tax Tip: Q2 estimated taxes are due ONE WEEK from today (June 15).

If you're self-employed, collecting 1099s, or living on income with no withholding, the IRS is expecting a payment next Monday. Easiest way: IRS Direct Pay at directpay.irs.gov - free, straight from checking, ten minutes.
