🤔 HOW LONG DO LATE PAYMENTS STAY ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT?

💡 Late payments can remain on your credit report for up to 7 years.

✅ If the account is still OPEN after 7 years, usually only the late payment history is removed.

✅ If the account is CLOSED and paid off, the entire account may be removed 7 years from the original delinquency date.

📌 Example:
If a payment was missed in May 2026, it could remain on the credit report until May 2033.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🤔 HOW DO LATE PAYMENTS AFFECT YOUR CREDIT SCORE?

💡 The newer the late payment, the bigger the impact on your credit score.

The good news? 👇

✔ The older the late payment gets, the less impact it has over time.
✔ Bringing the account current quickly can help reduce long-term damage.
✔ Continuing to make on-time payments shows lenders the late payment was only a temporary setback.

💡 Credit scores are based on patterns and habits. One mistake does not define your entire credit history.

If you continue managing your credit responsibly:
✅ Your score can recover
✅ Your payment history improves
✅ The negative impact becomes less significant over time

📈 Consistency is key when rebuilding credit!

🤔How Long Late Payments Stay on Credit Report

💡Late payments remain on a credit report for seven years. If an account is still open when the seven years are up, only that late payment would be removed.

💡In most case, if the account is paid off and closed, the entire account will be removed seven years from the date of that missed payment, or seven years from the original delinquency date. If the late payment occurred in May of 2026, the account should be removed no later than May 2033.

🤔How Late Payments Impact Your Credit Scores

💡The longer ago the late payment occurred, the less it will affect lending decisions. So, if you miss a payment, the most important thing to do is to bring the payments current and then continue to make all payments on time going forward. The missed payment could have a significant negative impact on your credit scores initially, but that impact will diminish over time.

💡Credit scoring systems reflect patterns of behavior. A rare stumble along the way is not likely to have a long- lasting impact on credit scores. If you continue to use credit wisely and demonstrate that you are managing it well, your scores will begin to climb back up.

💡After a short time it will become clear that the late payment was an anomaly in an otherwise pristine credit history, and your positive payment history since that time will offset any negative impact it had on your creditworthiness.

⚠️⚠️ ATTENTION TAXPAYERS ⚠️⚠️
Let’s clear up some of the most common questions and concerns about tax refunds ⬇️
🟢 1. “Where’s My Refund?”
Tax professionals do NOT control the Where’s My Refund tool. It is owned and operated by the IRS.
👉 The system does not always update in real time—you may receive your refund before the website shows it.

🟢 2. Refund Offsets (Debts Owed)
If your refund is reduced, you must wait for the official letter explaining why.
📬 Letters can take up to 3 weeks to arrive.
👉 Calling the IRS immediately often won’t help—call center agents usually don’t have offset details yet.
Another internal agency handles offsets, so wait for the letter first.

🟢 3. Refund Advances Are NOT Free
Once your refund is released, the following are deducted:
✔️ Refund advance
✔️ Bank fees
✔️ Tax preparation fees

🟢 4. Government Debts Are Paid First
If you owe ANY government debt, it will be taken—regardless of the amount.
‼️ If the debt wipes out your refund and does not cover preparation fees, you still owe your tax professional.

🟢 5. Same-Day Filing Does NOT Mean Same-Day Payment
It does not matter if you and someone else filed on the same day.
⏳ The IRS processes returns in its own order.

🟢 6. Fees & State vs. Federal Refunds
If your state refund arrives first, the bank will apply it toward fees.
💰 Example:
• Fees owed: $499
• State refund: $240
➡️ The full $240 is applied to fees
➡️ The remaining balance is taken from the federal refund
👉 Your state refund was not stolen—it reduced your balance, which can make your federal refund appear larger later.

🟢 7. Identity Verification & Review Letters
Some taxpayers will receive letters requesting identity verification or stating their return is under review.
🔒 This is normal and has increased due to fraud prevention efforts.
👉 It is not punishment—it is protection.

📌 Bottom Line:
Your tax professional files your return, but the IRS controls processing times, refunds, offsets, and reviews.

✔️ Stay informed
✔️ Stay patient
✔️ Stay protected

🚨 Student Loan & Tax Refund Update – 2026 🚨

If you have defaulted federal student loans, here’s what you need to know:
✅ Tax refunds are temporarily protected

The Trump administration has delayed (not permanently stopped) tax refund seizures and wage garnishments related to defaulted federal student loans.

🔹 Refund offsets through the Treasury Offset Program are on hold
🔹 Wage garnishments are paused
🔹 No official end date — collections can resume later

⚠️ IMPORTANT TAX ALERT FOR 2026 Student loan forgiveness is no longer automatically tax-free. Federal student loan forgiveness was tax-free through 12/31/2025

✨️The IRS isn’t guessing in 2026 — it’s verifying.

✔️ Save receipts (digital counts)
✔️ Separate business & personal spending
✔️ Use a business bank account
✔️ Track mileage & home office regularly

💡 Deductions don’t get denied because they’re wrong…
❌ They get denied because they’re undocumented.

Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready.

✨️Why You May Be Denied a Tax Advance After Receiving One The Previous Year

➡️Approval is based on your current tax return, expected refund, financial information, and bank guidelines which may change from year to year.

🚫Common Reasons for Denial:

✔️ Changes in income, filing status, or dependents
✔️ Lower expected refund amount
✔️ Outstanding government debt (child support, student loans, unpaid taxes)
✔️ Identity or verification issues
✔️ Changes in lender approval criteria
✔️ Prior tax advance not fully repaid due to refund offset

📌 Important Reminder:

Tax advances are optional financial products offered by third-party banks. Approval is "NOT GUARANTEED" and is subject to bank review. JC Financial Services has no control over approval decisions.

📩 If denied, the bank will send a notice explaining the reason.
