Great and simple article that clearly defines the frustration in dealing with the IRS today and for the last couple of years.

Continuing problems in timely processing of returns and correspondence may threaten more headaches.

Taxpayers are about to get a three-month reprieve to work on their income tax returns, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said at a press conference on Tuesday.

To our valued clients, family and friends,
As we continue to monitor the progress of the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and its associated new disease, COVID-19, we want to update you on how this will impact your taxes. So far, there has been no guidance from the IRS on this. There has also been no signed order from the Secretary of the Treasury, no signed Executive Order from the President, and no signed legislation that changes anything for taxes yet this year. I fully expect that there will be changes coming in terms of the due date of your return and the due date of your balance due, if you have one.
With regard to the preparation of your taxes, we are open and working as hard as we can. We have gone remote, in an effort to protect staff and clients. We encourage you to please send your tax information electronically. We have both fax and a portal available. Please call our office at 954-510-0109 or e-mail us at [email protected] for more details about our portal. Thank you to all for your continuing support and please stay safe and be smart. We all can do this together, but we have to be united in doing so...

For our business clients, an extension until September has been filed as there is still no guidance from the Federal government on any changes to current tax rules

The Trump administration is calling for tax deadline relief, but CPAs and taxpayers are still uncertain as to when documents must be filed and payments need to be made. Here are the next steps you should take.

I want to wish everyone a healthy and prosperous New Year. With the New Year, an entire new set of rules will be with us as it relates to your tax return. Here are 4 things that you should do, if possible, before the end of the year.

1. Pay your 2017 property taxes now. In New York, you are also allowed to start paying your 2018 property taxes.
2. Make your charitable contributions now. With the standard deduction going up to $24,000 for a married couple filing jointly, your charitable contributions may not be a sufficient amount to be of any tax benefit in 2018.
3. If you work in a job and incur expenses for your job for which you are not reimbursed, try to incur as many as possible now. For example, if you are contemplating the purchase of a new laptop soon, buy it this year. Likewise, for a new phone or any other item that you will use for your job. Also, note that fees paid to your tax preparer will also no longer be tax deductible.
4.If there is any way you can defer your income to January, I would recommend doing so. In 2018, the tax brackets will be reduced. The new tax brackets will be 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35% and 37%. These new brackets are typically 2% to 3% lower than the current ones in place.

Note that the tax return that you are about to file for 2017 will be done under the current rules in place and NOT the new rules. The new rules as briefly summarized above will go into effect on 1/1/2018 and will be implemented with the filing of your 2018 tax return in 2019.

When it comes to managing your finances, you want a CPA who understands the numbers – but that doesn’t mean that you want to be treated like one. Whether you’re looking to secure your family’s financial future or the owner of a small to medium sized business that is tired of overpaying in ta...

For those impacted by Hurricane Irma, the IRS has already granted tax relief as of today, 9/12/2017. All returns that are due either on September 15 or October 16 will now be due on January 31, 2018. Also, now due on January 31, 2018 are any 2017 estimated tax payments scheduled to be paid on September 15th or January 15, 2018. Since our office is located in a declared disaster area, even if you are not, this tax relief may still apply to you. If you are not sure, please feel free to call us at 954-510-0109. Our office will be reopening tomorrow at 10AM. Thank you to all and we hope everyone fared through this safely and that all have power restored ASAP.
