📣Important tax reminder📣
If you filed for a tax extension earlier this year, your new deadline to submit your return is October 15th, and it will be here before you know it.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
🟢You may owe interest and penalties if you have taxes due since April. The extension gave you more time to file, not more time to pay. If you have owed taxes since April, the IRS has likely been charging interest since then. Paying your taxes as soon as possible helps minimize those extra costs.
🟢Don’t assume the IRS will contact you. Be proactive and file before the deadline. If you miss the October deadline, expect a penalty. The IRS may eventually reach out, but you might rack up some hefty penalties and interest by then.
🟢Amended returns take longer. If you file now and realize later that something was missing or incorrect, you can still file an amended return. However, amended returns can take months to process. Try to get it right the first time to avoid delays.
