Today is 5/29 Day, a good reminder to think ahead about future education costs.

College tuition has historically risen faster than regular inflation, which is why starting early can make such a big difference. A 529 college savings plan allows families to set money aside for qualified education expenses, and the earlier you begin, the more time those savings have to grow.

A few helpful things to know:

✅ 529 plans are available in every state, and some offer state tax benefits
✅ Automatic contributions can make saving easier over time
✅ Funds may be used for qualified expenses like tuition, books, housing, trade schools, certain K-12 expenses, and even some study abroad programs
✅ Family members can contribute too, which makes education savings a meaningful gift option for birthdays, holidays, or milestones

They collect NEW socks and underwear (all sizes) for children in foster care through FosterAdopt Connect’s clothing closet. These items help provide comfort, dignity, and essentials for kids navigating major life changes.

Last year, the community helped donate over 2,500 pairs!

Foster parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and caregivers can access these clothing resources for free, helping stretch already-limited clothing budgets and making sure kids have what they need.

In this clip from Insurance, Investments & All About Town Podcast, host Eric Sporing explains what RMDs are and why they matter when planning for retirement. 💰

RMDs apply to most pre-tax retirement accounts, including:

• Traditional IRAs
• 401(k)s
• 403(b)s
• Other tax-deferred retirement accounts

Because these accounts were funded with pre-tax dollars, the IRS eventually requires you to begin taking withdrawals.

If you were born in 1960 or later, your RMD age is 75.

📌 One important thing to know: your first RMD can be delayed until April 1 of the following year. However, doing that means you may have to take two RMDs in the same tax year.

That could:
• Increase your taxable income
• Push you into a higher tax bracket
• Increase your Medicare premiums through IRMAA
