You had a great month. Jobs were coming in. Revenue looked good.

So… where did all the money go?

Revenue doesn’t tell the whole story. Your numbers should show you exactly what’s eating into your cash and profit.

If you’re constantly asking “where did the money go?” it’s time to get some answers.

Doing it yourself isn’t always the cheaper option. Your time has a cost, too. If you spend five hours saving $500, but those same five hours could have been spent estimating jobs, managing your crew, meeting customers, or closing $5,000 worth of work… did you actually save money?

Good business owners don’t have to do everything. They need to know which work is worth their time.

10 years of Evermore! 💙

Last week, we celebrated a decade of Evermore Accounting & Coaching with a ribbon cutting, some delicious cake (made by the wonderful, Susan Jacobs) and the people who have supported us along the way!

What started 10 years ago with Katie and Karrie has grown into something we're incredibly proud of. We're grateful for our team, our clients, and the community that continues to support us.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us and helped make this milestone so special. Here's to the next 10 years! 🥂

You finish a $75,000 job in September. The customer doesn't pay until November.

So which month did you make that money?

Under cash accounting, revenue is generally recorded when payment is received. Under accrual accounting, it's generally recorded when it's earned.

That difference changes how your financial reports look and how you evaluate your business.

A contractor can have a profitable month on paper and barely enough cash in the bank to cover payroll.

If you're making decisions based only on what's in your bank account, you're missing part of the picture.

Contractors, not all debt is bad debt. But it’s worth knowing what you owe, what it’s costing you, and whether it’s actually helping your business grow.

Take a look at your debt before heading into 2027.

You have three months left in 2026. Don’t wait until January to figure out what went wrong.

Start with three things: profit, cash, and adjustments.

Are you actually making money?
Where is your cash tied up?
What needs to change before year end?

Three months is plenty of time to make meaningful changes, but only if you know what your numbers are telling you.

Finish 2026 strong.

A contractor can bring in $1.5 million a year, have crews booked for months, and still wonder where all the money went.

Here's why. Revenue isn't profit.

A $100,000 job might leave you with $25,000 after direct costs. Take out overhead, and you could be looking at just $7,000 in operating profit.

The problem isn't always that you need more jobs. Sometimes you need to understand what the jobs you already have are actually earning.

When was the last time you compared what you estimated a job would cost to what it actually cost?

A contractor’s dream: knowing exactly how much money you can actually take home.

Profit First helps you stop treating profit like whatever is left over and start planning for it from the beginning.

Because a busy business should also be a profitable one.
