If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Additional Child Tax Credit and are wondering where your refund is, don’t panic. You can expect to get your refund by March 3 if:

• You filed your return online
• You chose to get your refund by direct deposit
• We found no issues with your return

New IRS Tax Form Alert: Schedule 1-A

Starting with 2025 tax returns, the IRS added a new Schedule 1-A where taxpayers can claim new deductions from the One Big Beautiful Bill.

This applies to:
✔️ Tip workers
✔️ Overtime workers
✔️ Anyone who bought a new U.S.-assembled vehicle
✔️ Seniors age 65+

These deductions can lower your taxable income even if you take the standard deduction, which could mean a bigger refund or lower tax bill.

Refund timing for early EITC/ACTC filers!!

The IRS announced that most early filing taxpayers who claim the Earned Income Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit can expect their refunds as early as March 2, 2026 if they filed online and used direct deposit.

Just wrapped up a return for a client who:

Tax Tip Thursday: Qualifying Surviving Spouse

Are you a widow or widower with dependents? This could be important for you.

If your spouse passed away and you did not remarry, you may qualify for the Qualifying Surviving Spouse filing status. You can file jointly in the year your spouse passed, and for the next two years, you may be able to use this special filing status.

✨ Why it matters:
The tax rates for Qualifying Surviving Spouse are the same as Married Filing Jointly—the lowest tax rates and often the lowest overall tax.

You may qualify if:
• You were eligible to file a joint return the year your spouse passed
• Your spouse died within the last two years and you have not remarried
• You have a qualifying child (child, stepchild, or adopted child) as a dependent
• That child lived with you all year (except temporary absences)
