What if the goal of working hard isn't to work hard forever?

On Labor Day, we celebrate hard work. And I'm all for it.

Work can give us purpose, provide for our families, and allow us to build wealth.

But somewhere along the way, many of us learned that the answer is always to keep going.
- Earn more.
- Save more.
- Achieve more.
- Push through this season.

And then...someday...we'll slow down.

But “someday” isn't a financial plan.

One of the things I love about financial planning is that the numbers can help us ask a different question:

What has all of this hard work already made possible?
- Could you work less?
- Take the trip?
- Change careers?
- Retire sooner?
- Create more margin now?

Building wealth matters, but so does recognizing when the wealth you've built gives you permission to live differently.

This Labor Day, maybe the question isn't “What am I working toward next?”

Maybe it's: “What has my hard work already made possible?”

Sometimes you don't need a financial advisor to take over your money. You need someone who knows what they're doing to look at it with you.

Maybe you're wondering:
- Are we actually on track?
- Could I retire earlier than I think?
- Can I afford to work less?
- Should we pay off the house?
- What should we do with this extra cash?
- Are we missing something?

Those are financial planning questions.

And you shouldn't have to hand someone your investment portfolio just to get professional help answering them.

That's why we've created the Financial Planning Intensive.

We'll help you understand where you stand, identify what deserves your attention, work through your most important questions, and create a clear plan for what comes next.

To introduce this new service, we've opened the first five Financial Planning Intensives at an introductory rate of $495.

After those five appointments are filled, the price will increase.

No investment transfer. No ongoing relationship required.

If you've been thinking, “I just want someone who knows what they're doing to look at this with me,” this was created for you.

Your financial life probably doesn't need as much attention as you think it does. Hear me out.

There's the:
- 401(k) from your current job
- old 401(k) you still haven't moved
- mortgage
- college accounts
- savings account
- insurance policies
- investment account you opened three years ago
- retirement calculator you ran once and then immediately forgot what it said

And ... approximately 37 financial decisions you've mentally labeled: “I really need to figure that out.”

Here's the problem: When everything feels important, everything stays mentally open and nothing gets accomplished. I've been there!

Good financial planning doesn't just tell you what to DO. It should also tell you what can WAIT.

And maybe even more importantly...what you can stop worrying about altogether.

Sometimes financial peace comes from having fewer things on the list.

You can make $100,000+ a year and still feel financially disorganized.

I think we need to say that more often.

Because there's a strange assumption that once you reach a certain income, you're supposed to know what you're doing.

You should know ... how much to save, which account to fund, whether to pay off the mortgage, if you're on track for retirement, what to do with the bonus, whether you can afford to slow down.

Except...why would you automatically know any of that just because you're good at your career?

Income and financial clarity are NOT the same thing.

You can be successful, responsible and financially overwhelmed at the exact same time.

And sometimes the next step isn't doing more.

It's finally getting clear about what actually deserves your attention.

What's one financial question you keep meaning to figure out?

In a world that constantly pushes us to want "more", more is rarely the answer.

More income.
More savings.
More investments.
More productivity.
More years of pushing.

There is nothing wrong with building wealth, but eventually we have to ask: What is the wealth for?

Maybe the next financial goal isn't more. Maybe it's enough.

Enough saved to take the trip.
Enough margin to work four days instead of five.
Enough confidence to make the career change.
Enough simplicity to stop thinking about money all the time.
Enough security to be generous.

"Enough" isn't settling. Knowing what is enough may be one of the most freeing pieces of a financial plan.

Do you need a Financial Planning Intensive?

Maybe.

This service isn't for you if you're looking for someone to manage your investments or build a comprehensive financial plan covering every area of your financial life (that's a different service we offer).

But it might be EXACTLY what you need if you keep thinking: "I just want someone who knows what they're doing to look at this with me."

Maybe you're wondering:
Can I retire in the next few years?
Can I afford to leave this job?
Should we pay off our mortgage?
Are we saving enough?
What should I do with this bonus?
Can we afford to help our kids?
Could I work less?
Am I missing something?

You don't have to hand someone your investment portfolio to benefit from financial planning. I think this is one of the biggest misconceptions about our industry.

Financial planning and investment management are NOT the same thing.

Sometimes you don't need someone to manage your money. You need someone to help you think.
To run the numbers.
To ask questions you haven't considered.
To help you understand your options.
And ultimately, to help you make a wise decision.
We call it collaboration.

That's the gap I want Financial Planning Intensives to fill. You bring the question. We'll bring financial expertise, perspective, and a planning process designed to help you move forward with clarity.

Sometimes one good conversation can change the direction of a decision you've been wrestling with for months. And there's nothing I love more than to see clients put the plan into action. It's absolutely breathtaking.

I've been thinking about the people who need financial planning—but don't necessarily need a financial advisor managing everything.

Maybe you have one big question.
Can I retire?
Can I afford to work less?
Are we saving enough?
Should we pay off the house?
Can we afford the move?
What should we be doing differently?

You don't necessarily need an ongoing financial planning relationship to answer those questions.

Sometimes you need a place to sit down, look at the numbers, talk honestly about what you want, and make a plan.

That's why I'm launching something new at Do Wealth Different: Financial Planning Intensives.

A focused 90-minute planning session that aligns your finances with the life you actually want to live.

I'll share more soon about what these look like and who they're designed for.

But I'm really excited to create another way for people to access good financial planning.

You don't have to wait until January for a fresh start. There is something about fall that feels like a reset to me.
School starts.
Routines return.
Calendars get reorganized.

For me, it's always a good time to ask: What do I want the rest of this year to look like?

Not just financially.
With your time.
Your work.
Your family.
Your energy.
Your money.

You don't need a crisis to make a change. Sometimes you simply need permission to begin again.

What would you like to feel different by the end of this year?

Can we talk about perfectionism??? (Enneagram 1 over here.)

Perfectionism is not excellence. It is fear in a polished outfit.

And high achievers are really good at making it look like wisdom. We do this with our finances, too.

We wait until we have researched every option.
Until we know exactly what the market is going to do.
Until we have the perfect retirement number.
Until we're certain we won't regret the decision.
Until we've considered every possible "what if."

We tell ourselves we're being responsible, but sometimes we're just afraid to make the wrong decision.

And perfectionism rarely produces peace. It produces delay.

Good financial planning isn't about creating perfect certainty. That's impossible.

It's about understanding what you know, acknowledging what you don't, considering the risks and tradeoffs, and making the wisest decision you can with the information you have today.

Excellence says, "Let's make a wise, informed decision." Perfectionism says, "Don't move until you can guarantee the outcome. Those are not the same.

You don't need perfect certainty to move forward. You need enough clarity to take the next wise step.

Where might you be waiting for certainty when what you really need is a plan?
