Included in the passing of this bill is an increased child tax credit in 2021. The credit jumps from $2,000 for each child under 17 to $3,600 for kids 0-5 and $3,000 for kids 6-16. An online portal will be set up for taxpayers to elect to receive the credit in monthly installments in advance of filing season.

The Senate approved a $1.9 trillion pandemic economic relief bill on Saturday. The bill will be sent back to the House of Representatives because the Senate changed the legislation originally approved by the House.

Hello everyone!

A few 2020 tax season updates for you:

-I can begin filing your tax returns on February 12th. This is later than usual as the IRS needs extra time to adjust for the items related to the Coronavirus Relief Act.

-If you were claimed by someone else in 2019 but lived independently in 2020 and did not receive any stimulus checks, you may now be eligible to receive those funds on your tax return.

-The IRS has released new guidance on charitable giving. If you do not itemize deductions, you are now able to take a special deduction for giving up to $300 to a qualified charity.

-If you would like some assistance gathering all of your tax documents, I would happy to send an organizer pamphlet to you (paper or electronic). Please send me an email at [email protected].

Lastly, in an effort to keep everyone safe, I will not be taking any in-person appointments this year. You can drop off your tax documents in person or take advantage of my secure document portal. We can also meet over Zoom - whatever works best for you!

I look forward to working with all of you soon.
