Update to the Lake Padden Park shooting incident and request for public assistance -

On 5-15-23 at approximately 6:57 p.m., officers were called to Lake Padden Park (east entrance) for the report of a male with a gunshot wound. There were witnesses rendering first aid and Bellingham Fire Department Medics arrived as well to the location inside the park. Though emergent lifesaving measures were taken by BFD Medics, the victim of the gunshot wound did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim is male, 37 years of age and with a Mount Vernon address. Further identification of the victim will occur once the family has been properly notified.

Bellingham Police Detectives are investigating the motive for the shooting and following leads. They are also asking for help from the public with gathering any electronic evidence, like photos or videos, taken at the time of the shooting in Lake Padden Park.
If you were there at the park right before and right after the shooting and saw, heard, or filmed anything which could help our investigators solve this case, please contact BPD in one of the following ways:

Came home from work tonight to a big stack of thank you cards from the kids I taught for Junior Achievement. These kids were super fun and the cards were so sweet! If you aren’t familiar with JA, the program sends volunteers into the classroom to teach kids about entrepreneurship, business, finance and the economy. It’s a great program and so much fun to volunteer for!

Thanks to a friend for sharing this career advice from Eric Barker, author of Barking Up the Wrong Tree.

I'm not one to make New years resolutions but I am one to reflect and look for opportunities to grow. I am excited to continue building my business in 2018 with the support of my family.

1. You need to have a personal definition of success. It will change and evolve but if you don't have an idea of what you want, you're going to be on a nonstop treadmill towards "more" and that's going to make you awfully busy but not necessarily happy.

2. You need to know yourself. Know your signature strengths — those things you are uniquely good at. What do you bring to the table? Doing what you're good at not only makes you better at your job, research shows it also makes you happier and respected.

3. Pick the right pond. Find a place that rewards your signature strengths. A great company isn't a great place for you if it's not aligned with your talents and goals.
