Update to the Lake Padden Park shooting incident and request for public assistance -
On 5-15-23 at approximately 6:57 p.m., officers were called to Lake Padden Park (east entrance) for the report of a male with a gunshot wound. There were witnesses rendering first aid and Bellingham Fire Department Medics arrived as well to the location inside the park. Though emergent lifesaving measures were taken by BFD Medics, the victim of the gunshot wound did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim is male, 37 years of age and with a Mount Vernon address. Further identification of the victim will occur once the family has been properly notified.
Bellingham Police Detectives are investigating the motive for the shooting and following leads. They are also asking for help from the public with gathering any electronic evidence, like photos or videos, taken at the time of the shooting in Lake Padden Park.
