Yesterday I attended the WSCPA Women’s Leadership Summit, and one theme kept coming up throughout the day:

Growth rarely happens when we stay comfortable.

As an introvert, putting myself out there doesn’t always come naturally. But every time I step into a room, attend an event, speak up, or take on something that feels uncomfortable, I notice growth on the other side of it.

One quote from the summit that really stayed with me was:
“Dream big. Set goals. Take action.”

That mindset has shaped so much of my journey.

I’ve always believed that big ideas only become reality when you keep moving forward, even before you feel fully ready.

We also had some really meaningful conversations around leadership, mentorship, sponsorship, and the barriers women still face in leadership roles today.

Very grateful to have been part of such a thoughtful and inspiring day 🤍

Becoming an entrepreneur isn’t exciting all the time
It’s actually… uncomfortable

No one talks about how hard it is to stop thinking like an employee

You go from waiting for direction
to realizing no one is coming to save you

That shift alone will either break you or build you

In this episode, we got real about what it actually takes:

Taking full ownership of your life and business
Realizing no one cares about your title when you’re building something from scratch
Protecting your energy like it’s your most valuable asset

Because if you don’t
your business will start running you

This one is honest, a little uncomfortable, and probably something you need to hear right now

If you’re in that in-between phase or already in it and feeling the pressure
you’re not alone in this

Most businesses I see right now are trying to grow with this problem

I’ve been seeing this a lot lately

Businesses pushing for growth
more revenue, more clients

But underneath, the foundation isn’t fully there

It shows up in ways people don’t catch right away

tight margins
sales tax sitting in their account like it’s theirs
multiple businesses with no real structure

On the surface, everything looks fine

Until they try to grow

That’s when things start to feel tight
unclear
harder than they should be

Growth doesn’t fix this
it makes it more obvious

If your books aren’t up to date going into Q2
this is where it starts showing up

Not in revenue
but in your cash and margins

I see this across service-based businesses every month

Revenue looks fine
but no one can clearly explain where the money is going

especially once you’re bringing in consistent monthly revenue

At that point
it’s not just bookkeeping

It’s a lack of oversight

I’m taking on a few bookkeeping clients right now

If your books aren’t up to date
this needs to be cleaned up before it compounds

Everyone talks about starting a business

No one talks about what it actually feels like after

When you’re in it

When clients depend on you
When revenue isn’t consistent yet
but you still have to show up like everything is fine

When every decision feels like it matters more than it should

And even when things are working
you still feel that pressure in the background

Because there’s no real off switch

This episode is a real look at what running an accounting firm actually feels like

The invisible work
the emotional weight
and how we’re thinking about growth without burning out

If you’re building something right now, you’ll feel this one

Most business owners don’t need more bookkeeping.

They need someone who can tell them what’s actually going on.

I’ve reviewed financials where revenue looks strong on paper
but cash is tight
margins are unclear
and no one can explain where the money is going

That’s not a bookkeeping issue
That’s a visibility problem

And it usually comes down to:
uncontrolled spending
pricing that hasn’t kept up
or money leaking in places no one is watching

At a certain level, clean books aren’t enough

If your numbers aren’t helping you make decisions
they’re holding you back

The shift happens when you stop asking
“Are my books done?”
and start asking
“What are my numbers telling me to fix?”

If you’re doing multiple six figures and something isn’t adding up, let’s take a closer look.

03/26/2026

Most business owners don’t actually know what’s driving their growth

They are making decisions based on what feels right
not what the numbers are showing

And it works… until it doesn’t

Because at a certain point, growth gets more complex

Margins shift
Cash flow gets tighter
Expenses creep up

And without a clear financial view, it starts to feel harder than it should

This is usually where I come in

Not to clean up the books
but to help you understand what’s really happening in your business

If you are scaling and things feel unclear behind the scenes
pay attention to that

DM me SCALE if you are serious about getting a handle on your numbers

Getting your books caught up is not a growth strategy.

It’s the minimum standard.

I work with service businesses that are generating real revenue yet still feel unsure about profit.

Revenue is up.
Expenses are creeping.
Cash feels tighter than it should.

Nothing looks broken.
But nothing is optimized either.

Clean books create visibility.

Margin analysis. Pricing strategy. Cash flow forecasting.
That is what changes outcomes.

When you understand where your margins are strongest and where they are leaking, decisions become intentional instead of reactive.

If your business is growing but profit feels inconsistent, it is time to move beyond basic bookkeeping.

Book a consult call.

Ongoing bookkeeping and advisory support are available for service-based businesses ready for structured financial oversight.

When revenue is growing but the numbers still feel unclear.
Most business owners I talk to reach this point at some stage.
The business is growing.
Clients are coming in.
Revenue looks good.
But the questions start getting bigger.
Can I afford to hire?
Should I raise my prices?
Why does revenue look healthy, but cash still feels tight?
Are my margins actually where they should be?
This is usually the moment when bookkeeping alone stops being enough.
Clean books are important. But what really moves a business forward is understanding what the numbers are telling you.
As a CPA, this is the part of the work I care about most. Helping founders move from guessing to making decisions backed by real financial insight.
If your business is growing but your numbers still feel unclear, it might be time for deeper financial support.

You know that moment when you open QuickBooks…
look at the screen for a second…
and then quietly close the tab? 😅

Yeah. That’s usually the beginning of a bookkeeping cleanup.

Most messy books aren’t about carelessness.
They’re about growth happening faster than the systems.

The business got busy.
Transactions piled up.
And suddenly no one is totally sure if the numbers actually match reality anymore.

By the time someone calls us, we’re usually sorting through things like:

• months of unreconciled accounts
• uncategorized transactions
• duplicate entries
• payroll or owner draws recorded incorrectly

Basically… a financial puzzle.

In this week’s podcast episode we talk about what actually happens during a bookkeeping cleanup, including:

• why businesses end up needing one
• what the cleanup process actually looks like
• the most common issues we uncover
• when it makes sense to DIY vs bring in help

And the slightly uncomfortable moment when you realize the books need help.

🎙 Episode 23 is live now.

Be honest… have you ever opened your books and immediately closed them again?
