After the wedding & cutting the cake, here are some steps you should take to make filing next year's tax returns easier:

- A Name Change should be report to the Social Security Administration. The name on the tax return must match Social Security records.

- Change of Addresses can be officially reported with the IRS by filing Form 8822, Change of Address.

- Use the IRS Tax Withholding Estimator to determine if you need to change your Federal Withholding. Then submit a new Form W-4 with your employer.

- Review your Filing Status. When you are married, you have the option to file Jointly or Separately. Most times, Jointly is the most tax advantageous.

- Keep Tax Records Together. Find one spot where you will keep all of your tax records including W-2's, 1098's and investment forms. This will make tax filing easier.

The IRS isn't Horsing Around with Hobby Losses Anymore!

For years, the IRS and Taxpayers have been arguing whether losses that involve an activity that mixes business & pleasure can be deducted as a Business Loss on your tax return.

The Tax Court and IRS look at:
- Is the activity carried out in a businesslike manner?
- Is the taxpayer an expert?
- Dies the taxpayer devote the necessary time and effort?
- Does the activity create an appreciable asset?
- Are there successes in similar activities?
- Is the history of the activity income or loss?
- Have there been occasional profits?
- Is there a stable financial status?
- Is the activity undertaken for personal pleasure or recreation?

If you show a profit in any of the 3 out of the last 5 consecutive years, the IRS will presume that the activity ISN'T A HOBBY.
