Dear Valued Client,
As we prepare for the 2026 tax filing season (for your 2025 tax return), I want to share some important information to help ensure a smooth, accurate, and compliant filing process.
The IRS has increased enforcement and review in several key areas, particularly for refundable credits, filing status, self-employment income, and deductions. My goal is to file your return accurately, maximize your legal refund, and reduce the risk of delays or audits.
Please review the following reminders carefully:
Documentation Required
All income must be reported and supported by official documents, including W-2s, 1099s, and other income statements. Estimates are not permitted under IRS guidelines.
Dependents & Filing Status
Claiming dependents and filing as Head of Household require specific qualifications, including residency, relationship, and financial support. Supporting documentation may be requested to ensure compliance with IRS rules.
Credits (Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Credit, Education Credits)
These credits are closely reviewed by the IRS. Additional questions and documentation may be required to confirm eligibility before filing.
Self-Employed & Gig Income
All business income must be reported. Business expenses must be ordinary, necessary, and supported by records. Mileage and home office deductions must meet IRS requirements.
Charitable Contributions
Charitable donations are only deductible if you itemize your deductions. Both cash and non-cash donations must be properly documented. Estimates or undocumented donations cannot be claimed.
Refund Timing
While most refunds are typically issued within 21 days, returns claiming certain credits or requiring additional review may take longer. Refund timing is determined by the IRS, not the tax preparer.
