Tis the season when tax payers all across the country hustle into their tax accountants office only to hear those dreaded words "You're going on an extension."

So what exactly does an extension do? An extension extends the time with which you have to "FILE" your taxes; however in the event that you owe it does not extend the time to "PAY" any amounts due. So in other words, when you file an extension AND you owe money to the IRS it is more prudent to send a payment with the extension so as to lessen the impact of any interest and late penalties which will be assessed on any amounts due. If you anticipate that you will not be able to file in time for the deadline (April 18th, 2016 11:59pm) please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to assist you with the electronic filing of an extension on your behalf. However, if you live in any of these areas and filed an extension, your deadline has been extended.

Missouri, Kentucky, the island of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands and members of the Tribal Nation of the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community have until Nov. 15, 2022, to file various individual and business tax returns.

Taxpayers in Florida, Puerto Rico, North Carolina, South Carolina, parts of Alaska and Hinds County, Mississippi, have until Feb. 15, 2023.
