From yesterday, 5/19/26

Sweet surprise ending to a full day of love.

I went over to Nantucket for a lively PASCON (Paliative Care) volunteer appreciation lunch at The White Elephant, it was foggy and cool there but the company was warm.
Came back on the 3:30 ⛴️ and off to the annual WeCan volunteer appreciation evening at Pelham House where it was also breezy and cool but, also warm to see so many who give so much to this wonderful organization. Many speakers said they feel lucky to experience the gift of being involved and I couldn’t agree more. NO photos from either but…
On the way home I saw a glow in the distance beneath the stormy dark clouds as a thunderstorm crossed the bay. Wait for the end of the first video, there was a horse. Wow!

On April 30, 2026, President Trump signed an executive order to promote savings for American workers. In its aftermath, we have had a flurry of questions about a new savings option called a “Trump .” This is, as the saying goes, “fake news.”

In today's Slott Report we elaborate further: https://bit.ly/4uloAxp

Back to Ed Slott semi-annual IRA/IRS tax law training, this time in Austin. While a typical review of tax law changes as they relate to retirement and estate plans, this time there was a focus on Caregiving, a topic I continue to talk and write about especially for Long Term Care Awareness(LTC) month.

The numbers are staggering, over $600B in lost finances may now be closer to $1.1T, affecting ~64M Americans as caregivers. (AARP 2025)
Over 56% of financial advisors now recognize LTC as a chief risk to a financial plan. (Univ of Michigan poll).

Medicare and Medicaid are not plans in most circumstances. Bottom line, we say plan and prepare instead of react and regret to have a plan for care before a crisis strikes. The speaker compared it to something he calls an important “Part of the roof of protection” in you financial house. This is one area most retirees don’t want to worry about.

October is winding down, it was officially “ Lewy Body Dementia Awareness Month” and November is “Long Term Care Awareness Month” but as far as I’m concerned, everyday should be. At least for awareness because there are so many needing help and the numbers are sadly growing.

Today after a visit with my brother, I’m reflecting. A year ago I shared the journey through year 1 and recently I shared our Long Term Care experience (thank goodness we had that plan in place) and here we are almost 2 years from the “official” diagnosis.

I’m thankful to Wingate Silver Lake (thank you Carrier, CDC®️ ) Safe At Home caregiving, the many support websites ( LBDA, Teepa Snow) and the Facebook caregiver groups as we navigate the progression of this disease and keep him safe and as comfortable as possible.

Recently I presented “Women & Money - Your journey towards retirement” to a group of ladies in the semiconductor industry, where I actually worked the first 24 years of my professional life.
Thanks to Sharon and Jackie who organized this event. It was fun to meet so many women at different stages in their careers in a field that I enjoyed for so many years.
Believe it or not, after some 40+ years I am still nervous before speaking but once I get going I am more comfortable because I’m passionate about the topics.
There are still many challenges with women planning for, transitioning to and living in retirement but there are steps to take once those challenges are understood to bridge the gap. At the end of the day, we work hard for 2/3 of our life and want to enjoy that last chapter, the “retirement” years.
As my company mission states, I enjoy helping clients plan for and live in the retirement years, whether they work, volunteer or play to feel relaxed along the way and love what they do wherever they are, Coast to Coast.
