Just a friendly reminder that the deadline to pay your third quarter 2026 estimated taxes is just around the corner – September 15, 2026. Typically, you may be required to make estimated tax payments if you receive income that isn’t subject to tax withholding such as: self-employment or freelance income, rental or investment income, Partnership or S-Corporation earnings and gig economy or contract work. It is important to pay your estimated taxes on time to avoid IRS penalties and interest. And remember to make these payments electronically to comply with the new federal mandate. For more information about paying your federal tax estimates online click here: https://www.irs.gov/payments. State estimated tax payments can be made online through Department of Revenue (DOR) website. Need help? Please call our office at (508) 222-3005 and we will be happy to assist you.

IN THE KNOW WITH CTO: Good recordkeeping can make tax time smoother and help support the deductions and credits you claim. Here are five receipts worth keeping: medical and dental expenses, charitable donations, business or work-related expenses, home improvements, and major purchases or property-related costs.

Why does it matter? Receipts help document what you paid, when you paid it, and why the expense may be relevant for tax purposes. A little organization now can save time, stress, and uncertainty later.

Record retention rules can vary depending on the type of document and your situation, so when in doubt, ask us before you toss or shred. For our full record retention guide, please visit: https://www.ctocpa.com/taxretention.php

What a turnout!
Last week’s Paper Shredding Event was our fourth shred event since launching the program in January 2024 — and it was by far our most successful yet. The response was so strong that Mansfield Shredding Services needed two vans to haul away all of the documents collected!

We’re grateful to be able to offer our clients a secure and convenient way to dispose of confidential documents, and we’re so appreciative of the positive feedback we’ve received from those who participated.

A sincere thank-you to our clients for making this event such a success, and to Mansfield Shredding Services for their continued partnership and excellent service. We’re already looking forward to the next one!

TOMMY’S TAX TIP: If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), or you are eligible to open one, it may be one of the most tax-efficient tools available to help pay for healthcare expenses while also supporting your long-term financial plan.

HSAs are often known for their Triple Tax Advantage because contributions may reduce taxable income, funds can grow tax-free, and withdrawals are tax-free when used for qualified medical expenses. An added benefit is that unused funds can roll over year to year, making an HSA helpful for both current and future medical expenses.

Eligibility rules apply, contribution limits can change, and good recordkeeping matters. If you have any questions about how an HSA may fit into your tax plan, please contact us at (508) 222-3005.

IN THE KNOW WITH CTO: Accounting software can be a helpful tool for small businesses—but small bookkeeping mistakes can become big year-end headaches. As accountants, a few common issues we often see include:
• Not reconciling accounts regularly: Monthly bank and credit card reconciliations help catch errors early.
• Misclassifying transactions: Incorrect categories can make reports misleading and tax preparation more difficult.
• Mixing business and personal expenses: Keeping them separate makes bookkeeping cleaner and records stronger.
• Over-relying on automation: Bank feeds and rules still need review to make sure transactions are recorded correctly.

Good bookkeeping helps business owners understand cash flow, make better decisions, and avoid a year-end nightmare.

We care about the businesses in our community and want to help with any questions you may have. Simply call us at (508) 222-3005.
