Tax season brings out more than refunds… it also brings out scammers pretending to be the IRS.
Here's some tips to help you 👇
❌ The IRS will NOT:
• Text you
• Email you
• DM you on social media
• Demand immediate payment
• Ask for gift cards, Venmo, Zelle, or crypto
• Threaten arrest or deportation
✅ The real IRS:
• Contacts you by official mail
• Gives you time to respond
• Explains the issue
• Never pressures you to act “right now”
If something feels off, 1st - pause, 2nd - don’t click links, 3rd - don’t pay immediately.
Go straight to IRS.gov or call using a number you look up yourself. Log in or investigate from there.
At Rush CPA, we’re always happy to take a quick look and help you verify if you are in question. Better safe than sorry!
