The LAST thing I'm asking you to do is sign over all your legal rights. πŸ“

The reason I may need a Power of Attorney from you isn't for legal control; it's to get your authorization to talk to the IRS on your behalf!

Tax POAs can be limited to a specific tax period or tax form. It does NOT give me broad access to your affairs. πŸ™…

Why a POA? Instead of sitting around waiting on speaker phone when you call the IRS, I can just handle it all for you!

You can also revoke a tax POA at any time by naming a new representative or by submitting a written revocation statement to the IRS.

This post is going to seem totally self-serving... but hear me out! 😏

I'm nominating professional fees, things like tax prep, tax planning, bookkeeping, consulting, and legal fees as one of the most underrated tax write-offs for small business owners in 2026!

The thing is, all of these things make your life easier as a business owner.

They're actively helping save you money, keep more money, stay compliant, and avoid expensive mistakes.

I'm all about working smarter, not harder, and hiring me as your CPA is doing exactly that for small business owners. 😜

This is the type of notice that every taxpayer is terrified of getting...
But I'm here to teach you that getting an audit notice isn't the end of the world. πŸ™‚β€β†”οΈ

This type of notice is actually pretty straightforward!

It lets you know exactly what area of your tax return the IRS is looking at + what documentation they expect you to provide. πŸ”

Generally, you need to respond within 30 days of receiving your notice (but double-check the due date for your exact letter).

If you had a tax accountant prepare your return for the tax year in question, let them know you've received this notice and would like their help!

Sharing some HUGE news about charitable deductions ↓

In past years, charitable contributions used to only help taxpayers who itemized (aka didn't take the standard deduction) on their tax return.

But starting in 2026, taxpayers who take the standard deduction can ALSO deduct certain charitable contributions.

How much?

If you're single β†’ up to $1,000.

If you're married filing jointly β†’ up to $2,000.

This deduction generally applies to cash donations made to qualifying charities only. Gifts to individuals do NOT count.

If your business is a sole proprietor or you're taxed as a single-member LLC, how much you take in owner's draws doesn't change your tax bill.

You're taxed on your profit... NOT the money you transferred to your personal account. πŸ’Έ

Leaving money in your business bank account doesn't hide it from the IRS (but it can be a smart way to manage cash flow).

Now, if you're taxed as an S corp, how + how much you pay yourself can have a huuuge effect on your taxes!

Not sure what applies to your small business? Let's optimize your tax situation together! πŸ€—

Today's topic is the Qualified Business Income deduction (QBI for short).
It's this not-so-little tax deduction of up to 20% of your QBI.

But here's why it's tricky ↓

It's not as simple as "my business made $100k, so I'll deduct $20k."

There are income thresholds and limitations to how much you can deduct based on the type of business you run.

And to optimize your deduction, you may need to play around with how much you pay yourself or contribute to retirement accounts.

Because of the complexity of this deduction, plus how beneficial it can be from a tax perspective, I always touch on QBI optimization for my [your niches] in our tax planning meetings.

Okay, getting into the IRS notices that feel a little scarier: it's CP2000.

This letter lets you know that the IRS received income or payment info from a third party that doesn't match what you reported.

Here's what you need to know about this notice ↓

The IRS is just letting you know that they noted some inconsistencies with your return.

It doesn't necessarily mean you got something wrong! That income could be reported elsewhere on your return.

You (and your tax accountant) should review the notice against your filed return and respond accordingly.

This isn't a letter to ignore; make sure to follow the instructions listed on your notice.
