As the first African American woman to earn a CPA license in Illinois, she broke barriers and paved the way for countless others in the profession. Her dedication to excellence and commitment to education led her to establish the Washington Wylie Foundation, promoting opportunities for future generations of accountants.

🌟 Today, K Smith Company proudly honors John W. Cromwell Jr., a true trailblazer who made history in 1921 as the first African American CPA.

Despite facing immense challenges in a time when it was difficult for Black individuals to access the education, work experience, and resources needed for the CPA license, John persevered.

He earned his degree from Dartmouth University, navigating systemic barriers to fulfill his dream. His groundbreaking achievements paved the way for countless others in the accounting profession. He also served as Comptroller at Howard University.

📢 Important Update for Small Businesses: With less than 30 days until the BOI reporting deadline, the Corporate Transparency Act has been blocked by Texas federal courts.

NEXT STEPS:
▫️If your business has already reported to FinCEN, you can pause all compliance efforts. With the current injunction, the CTA cannot enforce regulations at this time.
▫️If your business has not reported to FinCEN, delay your reporting. Further guidance and court decisions could reinstate the act’s enforceability

We will keep you updated as FinCEN is likely to appeal. Stay tuned!
