Congratulations to Amanda L. DeMarco, CPA on her selection to AICPA’s 2024 Leadership Academy! Amanda was one of only 30 CPAs honored by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) as a member of the Leadership Academy’s 16th graduating class. Amanda was selected based on her exceptional leadership skills and professional experience for the four-day Leadership Academy program, which will be held December 9th – 12th.

Amanda is a 2015 graduate of Kennesaw State University. She joined Smith Adcock in 2020 as a Senior Associate and was promoted to her current role as Manager in 2023. Amanda is on the Board of Directors and is Treasurer of the Atlanta chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).

The AICPA Leadership Academy was designed to strengthen and expand the leadership skills of promising emerging professionals while they network with a peer group of talented and motivated CPAs.

The Leadership Academy features career-development workshops and sessions with some of the accounting profession’s most prominent influencers. Participants were selected from public accounting firms of all sizes, business and industry, government, education and consulting firms.

The 2024 Leadership Academy attendees were recommended by their employers, state CPA societies, and/or volunteer organizations. Candidates submitted resumes and a statement explaining how participating in the Leadership Academy would impact them personally and professionally.

To date, more than 480 CPAs have participated in the AICPA Leadership Academy, many of whom have gone on to take on leadership positions in their firms, businesses, and organizations.

The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) is the world’s largest member association representing the CPA profession, with 400,000 members in the United States and worldwide, and a history of serving the public interest since 1887. AICPA members represent many areas of practice, including business and industry, public practice, government, education and consulting. AICPA sets ethical standards for its members and U.S. auditing standards for private companies, not-for-profit organizations, and federal, state and local governments. It develops and grades the Uniform CPA Examination, offers specialized credentials, builds the pipeline of future talent and drives continuing education to advance the vitality, relevance and quality of the profession

📣📣📣 Congratulations on your promotion to Partner, Jeremy Burch!

Jeremy Burch promoted to partner at Smith, Adcock and Company

ATHENS, Ga. – Smith, Adcock and Company, LLP one of Athens leading accounting firms, is pleased to announce the promotion of Jeremy Burch to the position of partner effective January 1, 2024.

Burch, a native of Newton, GA, joined Smith, Adcock and Company in 2019, and his excellent work led to his rapid rise at the firm. Within three years of joining the company, Burch earned a promotion to manager, and his promotion to partner follows less than two years after that.

His work is characterized by intelligence, responsiveness and caring. Current partner Rodney Chandler praises Burch’s performance and commitment to his large client base as well as his contribution to firm culture.

“Jeremy earned the respect, trust and friendship of the entire Athens office by helping, teaching, mentoring and caring,” Chandler said.

Burch’s experience in the profession is extensive, with a 2011 graduation from the University of Georgia, where he earned bachelor’s in family financial planning. Following his undergraduate studies, Burch received an MBA and Master of Accountancy from Mercer University. He began his career in public accounting in 2013 with the Trinity Accounting Group, another Athens-area firm, before joining Smith Adcock.

Burch’s outstanding contributions and commitment to the profession extend beyond serving his own clients, as he is an active member in the Georgia Society of CPAs (GSCPA) and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Recently, the AICPA honored Burch by selecting him as one of 36 CPAs nationwide to attend the AICPA Leadership Academy, a four-day program for emerging leaders in the profession.

Smith, Adcock and Company is a leading CPA firm with locations in Athens and Atlanta and is known for its excellence in professional expertise and client experience. The addition of Burch as a partner strengthens their leadership team and enhances their ability to meet the evolving needs of their clients.

Smith, Adcock and Company congratulates Jeremy Burch on his well-deserved promotion.

Congratulations to Jeremy Burch, CPA.

April 18 is the deadline for filing your 2022 tax return. But a couple other tax deadlines are coming up and they’re important for certain taxpayers: 1) April 1 is the last day to begin receiving required minimum distributions (RMDs) from IRAs, 401(k)s and similar workplace plans for taxpayers who turned 72 during 2022. 2) April 18 is the deadline for making the first 2023 quarterly estimated tax payment, if you’re required to make one. You may have to make estimated payments if you receive interest, dividends, self-employment income, capital gains or other income. Contact us if you have questions about RMDs and estimated tax payments. We can help you stay on track and avoid penalties.
