North Carolina taxpayers will see another reduction in state income tax rates this year.

For 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, the state's individual income tax rate is 𝟑.𝟗𝟗%, 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟒.𝟐𝟓% 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓.

Businesses organized as C corporations will also see a lower rate. North Carolina's 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐱 𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝟐.𝟎𝟎% 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝟐.𝟐𝟓% 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓.

According to projections from the Social Security Administration, the 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞 is expected to increase to $𝟏𝟗𝟎,𝟐𝟎𝟎 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕, up from $𝟏𝟖𝟒,𝟓𝟎𝟎 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔.

What is the wage base?

It's the maximum amount of wages subject to the 𝟔.𝟐% 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐱 each year. Earnings above that threshold are not subject to Social Security tax, though Medicare tax continues to apply.

📌 The final 2027 wage base will be announced by the Social Security Administration in October.
