Are you prepared for the end of the month?? Because somehow it’s already here.

- Review your Quickbooks, Xero or whichever method you prefer to use, and reconcile all your bank accounts.

- Set aside 30% of your finances for taxes.

- Review your profit and loss statement from previous months to see how your business is performing.

- Don’t forget the best part, paying yourself! Make sure to transfer whatever you decide is your paycheck to your personal bank. Always keep them separate!

Still unsure if you caught everything? Give us a call today, and we'll get it straightened out!

🚨 Beware of “Ghost” Tax Preparers

The IRS warns about “ghost tax preparers.” These are people who charge you to prepare your tax return but refuse to sign it or include their PTIN (Preparer Tax Identification Number). By law, paid tax preparers must sign the return and include their PTIN.

Ghost preparers are a BIG red flag because they may:
• Promise unusually large refunds
• Charge fees based on your refund amount
• Refuse to give you a copy of your return
• Tell you to sign and file it yourself so their name is never on it
• Use free or “do-it-yourself” tax software meant only for individuals, to prepare client returns (professionals should not be preparing paid client returns using free consumer software)

Remember: You are still responsible for everything on your tax return, even if someone else prepared it.

Protect yourself by choosing a legitimate preparer who:
✔ Signs the return
✔ Includes their PTIN
✔ Gives you the opportunity to review your return thoroughly before signing off on it
✔ Uses professional tax software

📌 Source (IRS): Don’t be a victim of a “ghost” return preparer

IR-2019-09, February 7, 2019 – Today, towards the end of the second full week of the 2019 tax filing season, the IRS warned taxpayers to avoid unethical tax return preparers, known as ghost preparers.

Many people are unaware of random audits and PANIC when they get one. It does NOT automatically mean you or your tax professional did anything wrong. If you know you filed an accurate tax return and claimed the credits that you’re actually eligible for, you have nothing to worry about 😊 I’ve attached a sample letter. Notice how it says you don’t need to do anything and please allow up to 60 days for review.. this is why I refuse to add credits people don’t qualify for, because yours could be pulled in the random audit and now how do you explain those fraudulent business deductions when you never had a business 😬 this is why having an educated tax professional is key! ‼️P.S. small business owners, I have some availability this week for appointments 💻

Fyi here’s an update on the child tax credit and helpful information for those who are trying to decide to either wait or go ahead and file. I’ve been asking every client what they’d like to do but it’s their choice. My job is to educate and give you the option.

You know what’s really infuriating to me? When people who don’t know better get taken advantage of! 😡
(I was given permission to share this case)
A client came to us who is an ITIN holder & said that last year he received a $1,500 refund for his dependent but didn’t have any income 🚩❗️We reviewed the copy of the return and noticed there was W-2 income of $12,500 entered! Mind you, they entered “unemployed” as occupation 🤦🏽‍♀️As I asked more questions I asked, what method of payment did they receive the refund and it was a check. 🚩 he doesn’t speak English so he was taken advantage of. This is FRAUD!! They coincidentally entered income only $450 less than the standard deduction in order to get him a refund. It’s not worth it, just go with someone who is educated and can be transparent about what they’re doing.
