This morning was different. We blinked and they went from the new nervous kids in middle school to the seasoned veterans in 8th grade.

Today was tough for Mom—because she understood what the moment represented before the rest of us were ready to admit it.

A chapter was ending.

There are leadership lessons in moments like this.

As parents, we spend years teaching, guiding, correcting, encouraging, and stepping in when needed. But the goal was never to make every decision for them. It was to prepare them to make good decisions when we’re not there.

Leadership isn’t much different.

The best leaders don’t build teams that depend on them for every answer. They coach. They challenge. They provide guardrails. They give people room to grow—and eventually, they step back.

Stepping in is easy. Stepping back is a challenge.

Whether you’re raising kids or leading a team, success isn’t measured by how much people need you.

It’s measured by how well they’re prepared when they don’t.

Proud of who they’re becoming—and reminded that letting go is part of leading well.

A little Canadian cottage time is good for the soul. ☀️🚤🍦🧩

This week included some of my favorite summer traditions: boat rides for ice cream, puzzles around the table, time on the water, and plenty of laughs with family.

But the highlight was our community’s weekly Texas Hold-Em tournament. Somehow, our family managed to sweep the podium — my 85-year-old father, my son’s fiancée, and I finished first, second, and third! 🏆♠️♥️♣️♦️

Three generations at the table, a little friendly competition, and bragging rights that will probably last well beyond the summer.

Between figuring out the next puzzle piece, playing the next hand, and deciding which ice cream flavor to order, it’s a good reminder that some of the best moments are the simplest ones.

We don't need more stuff. We need more memories and time with the people who matter most.

My weekends start with a long walk with our huskies. It turns out that we all need it. My wife even bought me a shirt that reads "Husky Dad".

They remind me every day that means paying close attention to details.

They have a for other dogs and squirrels.

This is a exercise. They never wonder if I'll bring them home.

The walks demonstrate . Rain, heat, and humidity...that walk is happening.

And maybe the biggest lesson is . We make the best progress when we're moving in the same direction.

A walk can be a reminder of our core values in business: caring, passion, trust, discipline, and teamwork. Life is a lesson.

Every once in a while, the best way to recharge isn't another productivity hack—it's heading to your happy place.

Last week, my family traded conference calls for boat trips and email notifications for loons calling across the lake. The kids reminded me that "let's do a puzzle together Dad" is the best medicine.

Vacations have a funny way of putting things in perspective. The emails will still be there, but summers with family don't last forever.

Hope everyone is finding a little time this season to unplug and make some memories. Like the treble hook that found my thumb while fishing. I've spared you the pictures.

This week my daughter Ally is at "camp" volunteering at the Humane Society of Tampa. They asked on the first day of camp if anyone had any animals at home? Her hand sheepishly went up.

Every week my wife puts the family calendar on the fridge. I found this week to be pretty typical. We are the vet's "annuity". This is why I work.
