Think only CPAs can represent you before the IRS? Think again.

Enrolled Agents (EAs) are federally licensed tax professionals who have unlimited representation rights before the IRS. That means we can represent individuals and businesses during audits, collections, appeals, and other IRS matters.

The biggest difference? Taxes are what we do.

Whether you need help resolving an IRS notice, planning ahead to lower your tax bill, or preparing your tax return, an Enrolled Agent has the expertise to help.

At Affinity Accounting & Tax, we're proud to be an Enrolled Agent firm committed to providing year-round tax expertise, not just during tax season.

๐Ÿ’™ EA Education Wednesday

Did you know? An Enrolled Agent (EA) is the highest credential awarded by the IRS for tax professionals.

Unlike many tax preparers, Enrolled Agents:
โœ”๏ธ Specialize exclusively in taxation
โœ”๏ธ Complete rigorous IRS testing or qualifying experience
โœ”๏ธ Complete continuing education every year
โœ”๏ธ Can represent taxpayers before the IRS in all 50 states

When it comes to tax planning, IRS notices, or preparing your return, working with an EA means you're partnering with a federally licensed tax expert.

At Affinity Accounting & Tax, we're proud to be an Enrolled Agent firm dedicated to helping individuals and small businesses make confident tax decisions.

If you're age 70 or older, you can transfer up to $100,000 (or a total of $200,000 for joint filers) directly from your IRA to a qualified charitable organization without paying any tax.

Even though the higher standard deduction limits make charitable deductions harder to find, there are still great options to find tax breaks within your charitable giving. Here are some great tips.

๐Ÿ’™ EA Education Wednesday

Did you know? Not every tax preparer is licensed.

Many people assume that anyone preparing tax returns is a licensed tax professional, but that's not always the case.

Enrolled Agents (EAs) are federally licensed by the IRS and are required to complete continuing education to maintain their credential and stay current on ever-changing tax laws.

When choosing someone to prepare your tax return, don't be afraid to ask:
โœ”๏ธ Are you licensed?
โœ”๏ธ What professional credentials do you hold?
โœ”๏ธ How do you stay current on tax law changes?

At Affinity Accounting & Tax, we're proud to be an IRS-licensed Enrolled Agent firm committed to ongoing education, ethical standards, and helping our clients make informed tax decisions.

๐Ÿ’™ Your tax professional should be as committed to learning as they are to serving you.

๐Ÿ’ **Just Married? Donโ€™t Forget About the Tax Changes!**

Marriage is an exciting milestone, but it can also change your tax situation. A few simple updates now can help prevent surprises and make next tax season much smoother.

Here are a few tax tips for newlyweds:

โœจ **Update your name with Social Security**
If either spouse changed their name, make sure the change is reported to the Social Security Administration before filing a tax return. Your tax return should match Social Security records to help avoid processing delays.

๐Ÿก **Update your address**
Moved after the wedding? Be sure to update your address with your employer, financial institutions, the post office, and the IRS when applicable. IRS Form 8822 can be used to officially update your mailing address with the IRS.

๐Ÿ’ฐ **Review your paycheck withholding**
Marriage can change how much tax you owe. If both spouses work, your combined income may create a different tax outcome than expected. Review your Forms W-4 and consider adjusting withholding before year-end rather than waiting for a surprise at tax time.

๐Ÿ“„ **Understand your filing status**
Your marital status on December 31 generally determines your filing status for the entire tax year. Married couples typically choose between Married Filing Jointly and Married Filing Separately. Filing jointly is often beneficial, however, the best option depends on your specific tax situation.

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ **Keep tax documents organized**
Start keeping W-2s, 1099s, prior-year tax returns, and other important tax documents together. Good organization can make tax preparation much easier and help ensure income and deductions arenโ€™t missed.

๐Ÿ” **Review credits and deductions**
Marriage can affect eligibility for certain tax credits and deductions. Some benefits may increase, decrease, or phase out based on your combined income.

๐Ÿ’ก **Affinity Tax Tip:** Donโ€™t wait until tax season to find out how marriage affected your taxes. A mid-year withholding review or tax projection can help identify potential issues while thereโ€™s still time to make adjustments.
