Today after the 11am Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Cairo, my colleagues in the Greene County Legislature and I presented Fr. Jay Atherton, the pastor of all of the Catholic Churches in Greene County and in Ravena a commendation from our Legislature.

On behalf of the 47,000 residents of Greene County, we thank Fr. Jay for his pastoral leadership and service to our residents.

Fr. Jay first became Pastor of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church in Windham in 2013. 3 months later, he was assigned to serve in Palenville and Haines Falls.

In July 2021, Fr. Jay became pastor of the churches in Cairo, East Durham, and Greenville. Later that year he was assigned to oversee parishes in Coxsackie and Ravena and then in 2022, he was assigned the parishes in Catskill and Athens.

This was a monumental task! Fr. Jay will now be serving as Rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany and Parochial Vicar of the historic St. Mary’s Church in Albany, NY.

Many blessings to Fr. Jay Atherton on his new ministry and many prayers for the Catholic communities throughout our county. 🙏🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
