Expats in Thailand: Big changes ahead for foreign income tax? 🇹🇭
Thailand is preparing a major shift in how foreign-sourced income is taxed.
A new Royal Decree could soon allow tax-free remittance of income earned abroad, as long as it's brought into Thailand within the same calendar year or the following year.
🔍 What does this mean in practice?
✅ Earn abroad in 2025 → bring it to Thailand in 2025 or 2026 = no Thai personal income tax
❌ Bring it in 2027 or later = taxable

This would mark a big departure from the current rule (effective since Jan 2024), where all foreign income remitted to Thailand is taxed, regardless of when it was earned.
Although the draft refers to Thai nationals, taxation in Thailand is based on residency — so if you're an expat spending 183+ days/year in the Kingdom, this may apply to you too.
💬 The decree isn’t finalized yet, but it’s a strong signal that Thailand aims to boost capital inflow and foreign investment.
