Just completed the BlackRock Masterclass, and wow, what an incredible experience! 🌟 Beyond the technical knowledge that BlackRock always shared, this class reaffirmed the values I hold close—integrity and lifelong learning.

In a world that's constantly evolving, staying curious and committed to growth is key. Whether it's in finance or any field, the pursuit of knowledge should never stop. And as I continue on this journey, I’m reminded that doing what's right—acting with integrity—always leads to long-term success.

With the 30-year inflation data and fear of recession in 2023, alongside many other factors, the Nasdaq and S&P 500 fell by over 30% and 20%.

Consumer prices rose just 0.1% in November, less than expected in November, up 7.1% from a year ago. Although consumers grew more optimistic about inflation amid expectations that both food and energy price increases would be less severe in the coming year, the fear of recession in 2023 persist.

Looking back, in 4Q2021, interest rate is forcasted to increase by 3 times, and in reality, there had been a total of 7 rate hikes in 2022. The FED is aggressively pushing borrowing rates to 4.25 to 4.5% in order to combat inflation.

The year is coming to an end pretty soon, the interest rate forecast is to increase to 5.1% and ease off gradually in 2024 and 2025.

Even though the market is down this year, annualized returns is still at 9-10% returns. Take advantage of current market conditions and additional perks and bonuses to start off your investment journey on the right footing!

Many factors played a part in the declining market this year. These include Covid-19, the Russia-Ukraine war, food shortages, supply chain disruption, the China property crisis, the crypto bubble, high inflation rate. Bad news seems to be coming altogether.

We are still not out of the woods yet. However, the world seems to have a better grasp of the situation. The nearly 40-year high inflation continued to be a risk factor in today's market. The long-term target is for the interest rate to be around 2-3%. The interest rate is currently over 3% to fight the high inflation and is projected to be over 4% in Q2 2023.

Higher interest rate means businesses that leverage on borrowed money will have a lesser profit margin, and homeowners will be footing a higher monthly mortgage payment. It is not all doom and gloom. With higher interest, bank savings, bonds, and treasury bills are now giving higher returns in the short term. For people with idle cash and a longer time horizon, the equity market is definitely looking much more attractive than before.

The Biggest Risk is not taking any risk.

In a world that is changing rapidly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking any risks.

In a rising interest rate environment, playing 'safe' by putting money in bank deposits will only result in the value of money getting 'eaten' by inflation.

Technology are taking over how we live and do business. By not upgrading and improving, we will be replaced by machines.

And in a race, you only get to win when you move forward.

Why investing is (even) more essential during a recession.

For some, this may be the first time that they experience a bear market. For others, this may not be the first time.

Well, what does recession means? It is the term when market decline more than 20% from its recent high.

Why is it essential to invest during this period? If you can buy a coke for 50c instead of $1, will you do it? If this coke that is worth 50c now can be sold at $2 in the future, will you buy it?

That being said, buy your coke with strategy by averaging out the purchase price of the coke. Buy it on different days. Buy Pepsi, Fanta etc as well in case Coke doesn't appreciate as much as you think it will / people may prefer to drink green tea in the future.
