Here's something most people don't think about β until it's too late. π‘
If you pass away without a CPF nomination, your CPF savings don't automatically go to your spouse or children. Instead, they are transferred to the Public Trustee's Office (PTO) to be distributed according to Singapore's intestacy laws. The process can take several months β and it comes with administrative fees deducted from your savings.
This means your loved ones may have to wait longer than necessary to access money you worked years to build.
Making a CPF nomination is free and can be done online at cpf.gov.sg/makecpfnom (or in-person at a CPF Service Centre). You'll need SingPass, your nominees' details, and 2 witnesses (21+, sound mind, not nominees). Online: Up to 15 nominees; more requires in-person. And unlike a will, your CPF savings are not covered by one; a nomination is a separate, essential step.
Who can you nominate? Anyone β your spouse, children, parents, siblings, even a trusted friend or organisation.
It's one of the simplest things you can do to protect the people who matter most.
Have you made your CPF nomination? If not, this is your reminder. π
