"Mummy,my friend has this new toy i saw on youtube. Can I get it too pls?" My kids love to pose this comment to me.

This gets tricky when the guilt of not giving them what they want when this feeling of disappointment is so familiar to me (Past experiences coming into play thus clouding clarity to make the decision.) On the other hand, the worry of bringing up entitled children worries me.

We are living in a society where we are comfortable and all our necessities have been taken care of. Our children thus live in a different environment from our childhood. Even vast different from our parents that are taking care of our little ones.

Balancing between providing the best for our children and not raising entitled children takes self- awareness. We can either choose to buy what our kids want or buy only when they need it. It's a necessary balance that every parent needs to put in practice.

I have a friend who let her kids save their pocket money and set aside for the goal(toy) that they want to get. Even to spend on the air ticket for a holiday trip or ticket to the theme park. The key is to instil the delayed gratification that is required in this fast-paced society. I am also guilty of not doing this consistently enough for my own kids. The idea of building consistency and habit of saving in our kids is one area i am focusing on currently.
Let's move forward together and build the right relationship with money for our kids.

P.S: Wrong values of money passed down might affect the relationship our kids have with money as well. The tips below are to get kids started on a healthy money journey.
