Just when you thought that there's no life after cancer. Let me share with you an inspirational story of my friend.
Aya, a girl who's just starting to build a career, with so much promise and aspirations to have a better future. Graduated with a degree in International Relations and find her luck in the busy streets of Makati City gladly with her impressive credentials and good communication skills she got hired on her first try in a banking industry and later on, in a BPO company. However, after 5 months of working on a graveyard shift, she received a sad news that changed her life and her outlook.
In 2013 she was diagnosed with stage 2B Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. It was the moment when the diagnosis, the treatment, the โwhat ifโs?โ, the road ahead, all converged. But somewhere from within, she found strength that helped her to overcome it. She kept her mind focused and her positive attitude made all the difference in her fight against cancer and the people around her. She is a fighter!
Fighting that big C is such a huge battle to overcome. Physically, mentally, emotionally and financially. Slowly theyโre losing funds to support her medication. Her mother sacrificed everything for her, every morning tita travels from Laguna to Manila in order to ask for financial assistance from PCSO and from different NGOโs.
After all the treatments that took a year and a half, finally she won the fight! Finally sheโs cancer free! She started working again. Her career in the Academe Industry started from being a Copy Editor to an Online English Teacher, then she became a Language Trainer and a Master Voice Assessor. She was also a Solutions Consultant.
2017, she realized the importance to be financially secured and contacted her friend whoโs a financial advisor from Sun Life with hopes and optimism she pursued to try the application. The decision? POSTPONED. 2018, they tried to apply again and for the second time postponed again. 2019 they tried again and for the third time the decision is postponed.
2019, I joined Sun Life. I never approached her since I know sheโs a cancer survivor then she might get a negative decision again. September 2020, after months of experience finally I tried to approach her and asked her โAya, send mo nga sakin lahat ng medical documents mo try natin ilaban yang case moโ. Additional requirements here and there, follow up emails to underwriter. After sending all the required documents finally she got her first ever policy, she got APPROVED!
Being new in this industry this was by far my hardest case. Sinubukan ni Lord yung tyaga at puso ko sa trabaho na ito. This time, hindi na usapang trabaho to puso na ang labanan dito. Hindi nagging madali pero all the efforts was worth it! Iba yung feeling na makasecure ka ng buhay ng isang cancer survivor! Lalo kong minahal ang trabaho ko ng dahil sa mga taong katulad nya, minsan ng binigo ng buhay pero lumaban!
Again, thank you Aya for the trust and thank you for making me realize the importance of my job.
Currently, she operates her own business named Cool Creams that started during the pandemic and became a hit since day 1! Congratulations Aya and more power on your business.
