Last May 2024 it, naoperahan ang wife ko due to ovarian cyst.
Ovarian cystectomyโฆ hindi mo talaga pinaplano.
Successful ang operation, thank God.
Then dumating yung bill.
๐ Total Bill: โฑ170,613.20
๐ PhilHealth Coverage: โฑ30,290.00

PhilHealth uses a Case Rate system.
So kahit:
60,000 ang bill mo
at โฑ15,000 lang ang case rate
15,000 lang ang sagot nila.
Ikaw na bahala sa natira.
As of 2026, ganito pa rin ang structure nilaโฆ fixed benefit, not full coverage.

In recent years, nagkaroon ng improvements si PhilHealth under Universal Health Care:
โ May expanded benefit packages for some conditions
โ May No Balance Billing (NBB) policy
Pero important note:

Kailangan may at least 9 months contribution within the last 12 months bago ma-confine
Kung kulang hulog mo, pwedeng ma-deny or mabawasan ang benefits
For 2026:
โ Contribution rate: 5% of monthly basic salary
โ Salary cap: โฑ100,000
Kung voluntary kaโฆ consistency is key.

PhilHealth is helpful, yes.
Pero hindi siya designed para sagutin lahat.
Think of it like this:
๐ PhilHealth = pangbawas lang
Hindi siya = financial shield

โ Check your contributions regularly
โ I-download at itabi ang MDR mo
โ Confirm with HR kung updated ang remittance
โ Kung self-employed/OFW, wag paputol-putol ang hulog
And most importantly:
โ Build an emergency fund
โ Get HMO if possible
โ Consider health or critical illness insurance

For the longest time, akala ko:
โMay PhilHealth namanโฆ okay na.โ
Pero ngayon malinaw na:
PhilHealth = nakakatulong para mapababa ang bill.
Still gratefulโฆ pero mas aware na.
Kasi at the end of the day, hindi lang ito about bills.
Itโs about protecting your family when life hits you unexpectedly.
Share mo โtoโฆ lalo na sa mga walang HMO or insurance.
Because preparedness isnโt just about saving moneyโฆ
itโs about not breaking down when everything suddenly costs more than you expected.
