Kung yung iba ay pinopost at binibida ang fund value ng VUL na tumaas, iba naman ‘tong sa akin — ipopost at ibibida ko ang fund value na bumaba. And here’s why…
As you can see in the photo below, this policy has been unpaid since January 2021. No’ng November 22, 2022, the fund value was still ₱65,970.99. Fast forward to today — still unpaid since January of 2021 — the fund value is now ₱52,607.49.
So bakit ko ba hina-highlight ‘to eh obvious naman na hindi kumita ang client? Simple lang. Kasi the plan’s fund value served its primary purpose — to sustain the policy.
Yes, yan talaga ang main role ng fund value sa isang VUL. Hindi ito primarily para yumaman ka in the future (though growth is possible). Ang pinaka-purpose niya is to keep your insurance coverages in force or active kahit hindi ka makapagbayad ng premiums for a time, in this case, for more than four years pa nga, kasi nababayaran pa rin ang insurance charges. Ayus ‘di ba?
Ito rin ang dahilan kung bakit mas mataas ang premium ng VUL compared sa Term Insurance. Pareho silang tumataas ang cost of insurance every year — pero sa VUL, you’re asked to “stock up” on units during the earlier years. Para bang nag-o-overpay ka sa simula. Ito ay para hindi sya tulad ng sa Term Insurance na ‘di ka lang makapagbayad ng isang buwan, lapsed na ang policy agad, and reinstatement or reactivating it is not even guaranteed as it can ask for medical requirements na, na hindi ka always guaranteed na maipapasa mo by then. Also, it is to anticipate the bigger insurance charges later on. That way, you can keep paying a fixed premium while still ensuring na sustainable at active ang insurance coverage mo through the years.
