What determines your success?
5 years ago — I dreamed of having the grandest house with the coolest car parked beside it. I even wanted to become a famous blogger with lots of content and followers! I also promised myself that I would be the big boss of my own company but guess what? None of it ever came into fruition! I mean, not yet. I know time will come, but I was becoming more and more impatient with my results. Looking at my colleague's journey, I felt like I was lagging behind. So I asked myself, is success really that accessible to other people?
I remember when I get to wait for hours just to ride a jeepney going home and eat pancit canton for dinner after an exhausting day at work, I may not have a car or a sumptuous dinner, but I was happy. There was also that time that I can't land a job, but I've spent the whole day playing with my nieces/nephews. I'm not a famous blogger/influencer, but for the kids, I am the best! I made them happy, and I was more than glad to be with them.
Before, I feel like I was continually pursuing something. Then I realized that maybe the reason I was always lagging or feeling left behind is that I grew tired of chasing success. As soon as I noticed the disparate connection between success and happiness, the epiphany strikes in. I was no longer in pursuit of accomplishments. Instead, I created my own success by choosing what makes me and my loved ones happy. In that way, I feel successful and fulfilled in life.
Is success really that accessible to other people? Yes! I believe everyone can be successful in life. If you choose what makes you happy, success will always follow through.
Are you happy with your new car? I'm so glad too! Are you happy living in a small home? I'm overjoyed for you! Are you satisfied of just riding along with the uncertainty of life? We are over the moon for you! You see, happiness is being contented with what we have. It is something we decide upon ourselves.
We often celebrate success, but we always forget that it is more fun celebrating when we are happy. It is not WHAT determines your success. It is WHO decides it.
Acknowledge contentment. Celebrate happiness.
