Investment advisers and financial planners commonly recommend that before you begin investing you should have a well-stocked emergency fund. That can include anywhere from 3 to 6 months of living expenses. The purpose of the fund is to make sure that you are protected from any income disruptions or large expenses that might force you to tap your investment portfolio ahead of schedule.

The fund enables you to carry on with the business of life, while keeping your investment portfolio protected from early withdrawals.

In essence, what an emergency fund does is cover a contingency โ€“ a temporary loss of income, or the unexpected arrival of a big expense or two. A life insurance policy functions similarly as a contingency plan. It creates a basic survival plan for your family or any other dependents that you have in the event of your death. This is a fundamental need, which means you should have adequate life insurance before investing.

When you are single, no one depend on you. That means when you have a problem, you have no one to depend on. Hence, you do need higher self protection.

When you have family, it means you have bigger responsibility and more people to take care of. Hence, you need an even more comprehensive coverage.

โœจ THREE REASONS WHY YOUR NETWORK IS YOUR NET WORTH โœจ

โฐ Reading Time: 3 Minutes โฐ

When I was 16, I accidentally learned about the magic of a powerful network.

My business mentor was looking for a new executive assistant. Nagkataon lang, I knew someone who was looking for a job, and she was perfect for what my mentor was looking for.

I connected the two and that was it. I didnโ€™t really expect anything from that.

A week later, I got a message from my mentor sayingโ€ฆ

โ€œPlease check your bank account. I sent a referral fee.โ€

I was so confused kasi wala naman akong maalalang nirefer ko sa kanya. I was ready to send the money back but then he called me and confirmed that it was mine.

I asked himโ€ฆ

โ€œSorry, di ko maalala. Ano nirefer ko sayo ulit?โ€

Natawa siya. Sabi niya, โ€œYour friend, dummy!โ€

I didnโ€™t understand why anyone would pay me for connecting him to a friend. And just like any good mentor, he saw this as an opportunity to teach me some business lessons.

Here are the 3 things I have learned that day that have been crucial to my business success now:

๐Ÿ’ฅ WHATโ€™S NORMAL FOR YOUR TRIBE BECOMES YOUR NORMAL

Sabi nga nila, you are the average of the five people youโ€™re always with.

Though we all have our own minds and make our own decisions, we have to remember that the brains we have today are still the same brains that our cavemen ancestors had.

Just like them, we join groups for safety and security. And to not get kicked out of these groups, we do what everyone else in the group does .

Whatever is normal for the group weโ€™re in becomes our normal.

So, if youโ€™re in a group where itโ€™s completely normal to share and celebrate each otherโ€™s wins, then youโ€™ll likely be happy for other peopleโ€™s successes as well.

In the same way, if youโ€™re in a group where toxic gossip is whatโ€™s normal, yun din ang malamang ang gagawin mo.

THINGS TO ASK YOURSELF:

๐Ÿ“Œ What is the common daily conversation you see in your own tribes?

๐Ÿ“Œ Is their direct impact on your life and goals positive or negative?

๐Ÿ’ฅ PEOPLE WHO LIKE EACH OTHER HELP EACH OTHER

Self-explanatory: people who like each other help each other. But to dive even deeper, I think this is because of our shared values, goals, and priorities.

When you find people who understand your language, who inspire you to become better, who value what you value, and who support your goals, itโ€™s so natural for you to do the same thing for them.

Itโ€™s not about tallying na, โ€œO, ginawa ko to para sayo kaya dapat may gawin ka rin para sakin.โ€

We have this natural desire to be a cheerleader for our own cheerleaders.

When we see opportunities that we know will be useful for them, we let them know right away because we want them to succeed as much as they want us to succeed.

THINGS TO ASK YOURSELF:

๐Ÿ“Œ Who are your biggest cheerleaders? In what ways have you become their cheerleader as well? (Tag them in this post!)

๐Ÿ“Œ Have there been moments in your life where you got what you wanted and needed because of the help and support of your friends?

๐Ÿ’ฅ YOU GET PAID FOR THE VALUE YOU PROVIDE

When my mentor sent me money for referring a friend, I felt guilty and ashamed.

Sabi ko, โ€œHala, gusto ko lang naman tumulong. Hindi naman ako kailangang bayaran.โ€

Then I realized that this was actually a limiting belief. My mentor saidโ€ฆ

โ€œI paid you because you gave me value. The value I was looking for was someone who can help me free up my time so that I can focus on what matters.โ€

Being young and naรฏve, sumagot pa ako.

โ€œOkay, pero secret lang natin to ha? Wag mo sabihin sa kaniya kasi baka isipin niya nirefer ko lang siya because of this.โ€

He laughed and then said, โ€œShe knows! You also gave her value โ€“ you gave her the opportunity she was looking for.โ€

And thatโ€™s when I learned that you donโ€™t get paid for your time โ€“ you get paid for the value you provide.

And thereโ€™s so much value you can provide for your own network.

Just like all of my other posts, I encourage a 72-hour window where we practice what we just learned. Game!

Tapos ikaw na wala pang insurance nag aalangan na agad? Sad reality but there are other people who can't really see the value and importance of having a life insurance ๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’”

Insurance is a "just in case" scenario, diba nagdadala ka ng payong just in case na umulan, pero hindi ka insured just in case na may mangyari sayo ๐Ÿ˜ถ

What did I buy this 10.10? My 10th life insurance policy. ๐Ÿฅณ

I've been buying life insurance since I was 18. Ang dami laging nag tatanong... bakit?!

Gustong gusto mo na ba mamatay?
Ganun ka ba ka-praning?
Why spend your money on insurance?!

Here's an excerpt from my book, "How to YOLO Wisely":

"While life insurance is meant for the future, for me, life insurance is the best tool to acquire the enjoyment of the present.

Okay, so Iโ€™m currently 29 and I have nine [now ten!] life insurance policies. Letโ€™s break some of them down...

๐Ÿ“Œ Some policies are meant for critical illnesses. This means that if ever I get ill with cancer, heart attacks, major burns, and/or other critical stuff, I have at least Php 10,000,000 to get from all of my policies. Cancer costs a lot! At least I donโ€™t have to pull out money from my savings and investments just to pay for hospital bills. Most importantly, I will never become a financial burden to my family.

๐Ÿ“Œ All policies have guaranteed death benefits that will go to my parents and my niece just in case something happens to me.

๐Ÿ“Œ Some of my policies are partly made of investments in bonds and equities (the stock market). Though money growth in these investments is not guaranteed - just like in any other investment vehicle - there is still a chance for me to get money when I need it. No need for me to expect my future children to pay me back for putting a roof over their heads for 18+ years, right?

Well you see, if Iโ€™m already prepared for the future, why would I be worried about spending my money in the present?"

This is how you YOLO wisely.

My 10th policy is worth P60,000 a year, and it will give me an additional coverage of Php 3,000,000 just in case I get critically ill and another Php 3,000,000 for my family if ever something happens to me.

Let's say I pass away at age 80...

Php 60,000 x 51 years = P3,060,000.

I can do two things with this Php 60,000:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Religiously save up P60,000 for 51 years and hope I won't get sick so that my savings won't go down the drain.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Put P60,000 in life insurance and let the insurance company pay for my P3,000,000 hospital bills plus Php 3,000,000 death benefit, plus Php 200,000 in other benefits, plus get over P3,000,000 in non guaranteed benefits as well?

If I get sick at 50, I only paid P1,260,000 but I will get P3,000,000 in hospital benefits.

Why would I ever allow my family to get financially involved with my own risks? Ayoko nga. Ayoko na pag nagkasakit ako, madamay pera at ari a***n ng pamilya ko.

This is why I buy policies.

Because really, again: If Iโ€™m already prepared for the future, why would I be worried about spending my money in the present?

Worry and anxiety only happens if you're not prepared.

But I am.

As much as I am thanking my 19 year old self now for saving and investing early, I'm 100% sure that my 39 year old self will thank me for protecting her once again.

Now, time to enjoy the present. ๐Ÿ’–

FAQ:

๐Ÿ“Œ Which companies did you buy from?
Pru Life UK, Manulife, PhilAm, and FWD.

๐Ÿ“Œ Are you currently paying for all ten?
Nope. 6 are completely paid off (4 one-time payments, 2 5-year payments). 1 will be done in 2 years. 3 (including this new one) will be paid for life.

๐Ÿ“Œ Do I really need this much?
IT DEPENDS! This one works for ME - but remember that all people have different financial standings, beliefs, and goals. I have this much because of my own beliefs around money, my own plans, and my own skills and privileges. There's no template for this other than knowing exactly where you are and knowing exactly what you want. ๐Ÿ™‚

Other than the importance of protecting your money, I think this is another message I want to give you:

There's no ONE exact way of doing things. I don't want to leave you overwhelmed by how much I have. Focus instead on your own path and build on that. This life is mine, and your life is yours.

Let's say you have saving in your bank account worth 500,000Php na inipon mo for 10-15 years, then unexpected happens to you or in your family. You realized "Ay, mayroon akong worth 500K sa bank, withdrawhin ko na lang 'yon" but consider your 500,000Php your last money. Then after that, ano na? Saan na? It will took again 10-15 years or more pa para maipon ulet yung money na nawithdraw mo sa bank.

But if you have both Life Insurance and Savings, if something happens to you, INSURANCE will cover up your expenses and SAVINGS will remain in your bank.

Last night I had given a chance to listen a Webinar about today's millennial Mindset. I realized that you just need to work hard from the things that you love. Never ever let other people's opinion affect what you are right now and what you are doing right now. We have different path, hindi dahil nauuna siya eh hindi ka na makakarating sa kung anong gusto mo. Life is not a race, it's a matter of how you will gonna take that path. Life is a process, mabagal sa una pero alam nating lahat tayo makakarating sa end goal na gusto natin. Trust with ourselves. Trust with the Lord. The more failings, the more na mas natututo tayo and the more that we will likely to succeed in the future.

Happy sunday everyone! ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ™Œ Don't forget to go to mass even if it's online and thanks God for a wonderful week ๐Ÿ™

Other people might say that they are too young and healthy to get a life insurance.

Here's the trick:
People bought new car, insured that car. Bought new house, insured that house because these two things are valuable to you isn't it?

But it's YOU who are your family's most valuable asset. YOU provide your family with income for your daily needs. Don't YOU think it's wiser to insure the most important asset- YOURSELF?

It's not also a responsibility for your family but a responsibility for YOURSELF.
