FINDING YOUR WHY IN SAVING
Have you ever asked yourself why you want to save?
Yes, sure. It is the right thing to do but at some point we find it hard to really do it. Let me share with you this story.

Si client interested siya to start a plan but he acknowledged na hirap siya mag-ipon kahit gustong - gusto niya because of his lifestyle. Heโs the type of person who chooses convenience kahit alam niya na mas magastos. He also likes to shop, LIKE A LOT.
I suggested that we breakdown his expenses to see where we can cut back. I also introduced to him the โenvelopeโ budget system because to me it was effective. Unfortunately, na-try na daw niya but still no avail kasi nakikita daw niya yung money niya and heโs tempted to spend. I suggested to him to open a bank account so that he wouldnโt have immediate access to it but heโs a bit hesitant with the idea.
At the back of my mind, I know I have to teach him to be disciplined with his finances. On the other hand, I try asking myself was it really because of the lack of discipline? It can be but I am not the judge of that. I canโt and I refuse to judge his life choices.
So, I pause and quickly reflect on things. Na-realize ko na yung shopping and convenience make him happy but he feels frustrated after kasi wala pa siyang ipon.
Then I blurted out, โBAKIT GUSTO MONG MAG-IPON?โ Hindi nya ako nasagot as to really WHY.
Then I told him, kahit anong ibigay ko na suggestion or solution if you donโt know youโre why, you wonโt be able keep the habit of saving. Then I ended our meeting by saying:
FIND YOUR WHY. Then start with baby steps. Donโt give up the things that make you happy all at once. If you think youโre ready, we can start a plan by saving 70/day.
In the end, itโs not a closed deal for me but I learned a lesson. To my fellow financial advisors, we just donโt sell insurance. Part of our job is to understand (not judge) their choices, educate and most importantly EMPOWER them to make sound financial decisions.
When I say empower, WE DO NOT IMPOSE. We GIVE the person the POWER to decide for the better.
To anyone struggling in making saving a habit, donโt be too hard on yourself. Some people are in the same situation as you. JUST FIND THE WHY YOU WANT TO SAVE AND I PRAY THAT IT IS BIG ENOUGH TO RESIST UNWISE SPENDING AND MAY YOU FIND JOY AND PURPOSE IN SAVING.โ๏ธ๐
