MISSION: POSSIBLE : See the Youth in Action! Kalamidad Paghandaan, Tulong ng Kabataan 2021

It truly is a possible mission!

Just this afternoon, a webinar on what to do during any form of natural disaster happened.

SPC’s GUILASS, in collaboration with SPC SHS’ Disaster Response Team, would like to offer their most heartfelt gratitude not only to the working committee for working hard to make this webinar possible, but also our dear speaker, Remark Z. Mortalla, PTRP, MSDEA, for making time in his busy schedule to educate us in disastrous situations.

According to the World Health Organization, a disaster is occurring disrupting the normal conditions of existence and causing a level of suffering that exceeds the capacity of adjustment of the affected community. In other words, disaster pertains to a catastrophe that results in great harm, damage, or loss of life.

In addition, unexpected catastrophes like earthquakes and landslides, as well as persistent disasters such as powerful typhoons, floods, and storm surges, have wreaked havoc on the nation. There was also a problem in the delivery of products to the afflicted people, as well as a transparency issue with money donations. Due to the undisclosed location and unknown amount of products and services required, quick reactions and assistance to the impacted regions are sometimes difficult.

In 2 days, the MISSION POSSIBLE: See Youth in Action, “Kalamidad Paghandaan, Tulong ng Kabataan ay Kailangan” webinar will occur through zoom.

We need to get ready. It is important to be prepared in order to survive and recover from a catastrophe.

Despite the maelstrom of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines has seen two big disasters in the last year – typhoon Ulysses and the eruption of the Taal Volcano. Natural catastrophes are costing the nation more in terms of social and economic costs as a result of population expansion, changing land-use patterns, migration, unplanned urbanization, environmental degradation, and global climate change. However, the government's and business sectors' increased attention on preparation and prevention has resulted in fewer fatalities.
Communities are now able to recover more swiftly after a disaster. Indeed, disaster preparation saves lives. As citizens, we were regularly asked, "What can we do?"

Together with the collaboration of the SPC Senior High School Disaster Response Team, the MISSION POSSIBLE: See Youth in action, “Kalamidad Paghandaan, Tulong ng Kabataan ay Kailangan” webinar on December 3, 2021, via zoom addresses these concerns.

Youths have a remarkable ability to bounce back from adversity. We can omit and adjust to changes. Our tenacity enables us to overcome challenges in our lives, such as natural catastrophes and tragedies, and to adapt to a wide spectrum of individuals.

🌍Every year, disasters affect the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Each calamity has long-term consequences for both people and property. Hence, local government and disaster-relief agencies strive to assist if a tragedy strikes in our neighborhood, but we must also be prepared. Local responders may not be able to reach you right away or may need to divert their attention elsewhere.

Preparedness may help to decrease the dread, worry, and losses that come with catastrophes. Individuals, families, and communities should be aware of what to do in the case of a fire and where to take shelter during a severe storm. We should be prepared to flee our houses and seek safety in public shelters, as well as know how to take care of their basic medical requirements.
Through MISSION POSSIBLE: See the Youth in Action, Kalamidad Paghahandaan, Tulong ng Kabataan ay Kailangan in December 3, 2021 via zoom could be an eye-opener. We’re in this together – for our families, our communities, and our world.

Climate change is defined as a shift in the climate that lasts decades or longer and is caused by either natural or human-caused factors. Thus, it is already changing the frequency and severity of many weather-related hazards, as well as increasing the susceptibility and weakening the resilience of vulnerable communities who rely on arable land, water, and consistent mean temperatures and rainfall.

Furthermore, climate change has the potential to enhance catastrophe risk in a number of ways, including modifying the frequency and severity of hazard occurrences, influencing susceptibility to hazards, and altering exposure patterns. As a youth, can we save the planet? But how?

Thus, it is a call in 5 days before the Mission Possible: See the You in Action, Kalamidad Paghandaan, Tulong ng Kabtaan ay Kailangan via zoom.
