"Sorry, I won't continue."
I heard this once from a client after we had worked tirelessly on all his medical requirements for an insurance application. For three long months, I was constantly running between his doctor, the lab, the hospital, and our office, all because I wanted to help him secure insurance despite his health issues at just 25 years old.
"Look, we really need to provide all the required medical documents because we're talking about millions here. We can offer this to you without charging you that much."
He seemed to understand.
Thankfully, the insurance was approved, but with special ratings due to medical reasons. And then he said, "Sorry, I won't continue."
I was taken aback.
In my mind, I thought, "Is this really happening? After all our efforts to prove his insurability, he decides to back out now that it's all set?"
But as I always remind myself and my clients, "Your best interest comes first."
I told myself, "You did everything you could with pure intentions. You can't force people."
After a year and seven months, this client reached out to see if he could apply for insurance again. Now, facing cancer, what could I do?
Nothing.
I felt a deep sadness but no guilt because he knew how hard I fought for him from the start. I had to accept his decision, even though I wanted to help him so much since his application was already approved. But, after all, I couldn’t force him.
Time changes everything. It may sound repetitive, but it’s still true.
