What is the difference between revocable and irrevocable insurance?

Revocable: You can change the beneficiary at any time, without their consent.

Irrevocable: You cannot change the beneficiary unless they agree in writing.

In insurance, revocable means the policyholder can change the beneficiary at any time without the beneficiary's consent. This provides flexibility, as the policyholder retains control and can update the designation if circumstances change.

Key aspects of a revocable beneficiary
1.Policyholder control: The policy owner has full control and can change, remove, or adjust the beneficiary's payout percentage at any time.
2.No beneficiary consent needed: The beneficiary does not need to approve the change.
3.Flexibility: This designation is common because it allows the policyholder to adapt the plan to life changes, such as a new marriage or birth of a child.
4.No legal interest: The beneficiary has no legal interest in the policy while the policyholder is alive.
Simple process: Changing a revocable beneficiary is generally a straightforward administrative task.
