Working from home?

If you run a business from home, you may be able to claim a deduction for part of your household expenses.

For the year ended 31 March 2026, Inland Revenue's home office square metre rate is $57.30 per m².

This rate is designed to cover costs such as:
- Electricity
- Gas
- Internet
- Telephone
- House and contents insurance

Depending on your circumstances, you may also be able to claim a portion of your rent, rates, or mortgage interest.

Home office claims aren't one-size-fits-all, and the best method will depend on your individual situation.

eInvoicing is coming to Xero.

From 8 June 2026, eligible Xero accounts will automatically be registered with the Peppol network, giving businesses access to eInvoicing at no additional cost.

eInvoicing allows invoices to move directly between accounting systems, helping businesses:

• Get paid faster
• Reduce manual processing
• Improve accuracy
• Increase security

There’s nothing you need to do - we’ll help ensure your business details in Xero are ready for registration.

It’s almost tax season in NZ - and Inland Revenue’s auto-calculations are about to kick off.

If all your income has had tax deducted during the year (like salary, wages, interest, dividends or KiwiSaver), IRD may automatically assess your tax position for you.

But not everyone fits into this process.

If you’ve had other income during the year - including rental income, self-employment, overseas income, crypto, or beneficiary income from a trust - you may still need to file an IR3 tax return.

Also worth noting: beneficiaries of trusts are generally not included in Inland Revenue’s auto-assessment process due to additional disclosure requirements.

We’ve also been in touch with clients identified as auto-assessed to discuss ongoing agency options for the coming year.

If you’re unsure where you sit, please reach out - it’s always better to confirm early.

With a month of the new financial year under your belt, what’s one process you’ve identified to improve this quarter?

Here at Yovich Advisory, we’re continuing to explore ways to improve our systems and automation, particularly through FYI and how we use it for document storage and collaboration with clients.

We’re also seeing great results from clients using tools like Tradify for job management and Hubdoc for invoice processing - both worth considering if those areas need tightening up.

Coming off the high of a busy end of financial year, Yovich Advisory is proud to be celebrating 6 years in business.

Our business first opened its doors at the very beginning of a global lockdown and has grown into something we're incredibly proud of. Navigating a new business through COVID came with its challenges - but it also set the tone for who we are: a team that shows up, works hard, and makes things happen.
