🤞 Doing your own GST and crossing your fingers you’ve got it right? 🤞

A GST Review is one of the ways we can support you without taking over the whole process.

Keep doing your thing in Xero, and we’ll jump in before you file to check your coding, GST treatment and anything that might need a little tweak.

It means we can pick up the little things as you go, rather than finding them months later when we’re doing your annual accounts. You do the GST. We’ll help make sure everything is in order.

Last week we headed to Auckland for The GAP Advisory in Motion Conference.

Two days surrounded by accountants might not sound like everyone’s idea of fun 😂 but we came home with plenty of fresh ideas.

A big focus of the conference was how we can have better conversations with our clients. How to help you look beyond the day-to-day numbers, where your business is heading, what you want from it and how we can help you get there.

There were plenty of great speakers, lots of ideas to bring back to Coastal and of course a bit of fun along the way!

🎄 16 weeks until Christmas! 🎄

We know, it feels far too early to be saying that… but the Christmas season has a habit of coming around quickly.

Before the summer rush arrives, now is a good time to check in on your business and see how things are looking.

Are your numbers where you thought they’d be by this point in the year?

Do you know what the next few months are likely to look like financially?

Is there anything you’ve been meaning to sort, change or plan for that keeps getting pushed down the list?

And if your business slows down, speeds up or shuts completely over summer, have you planned for what that means?

There’s still plenty of time to make adjustments and get things sorted before the Christmas and summer period arrives.

Your first provisional tax instalment for the 2027 tax year is due tomorrow.

Make sure your payment is made, or arrangements are in place with IRD, by the due date to avoid unnecessary penalties.

There was a pretty big birthday to celebrate over the weekend, with Katrina turning the big 5-0 on Saturday! 🥳💙

She’s now swapped the office for a well-earned break, kicking off her travels with a stop in New York. ✈️

We’ve already received a few snaps from NYC, and it looks like 50 is treating her pretty well so far!

Scam of the day… apparently there’s a tax refund waiting for us! How exciting 😂

Unfortunately, we think the scammers might need to put some of that refund towards a proofreader.

A few things stood out to us when we took a closer look:

🔎 The sender: [email protected]
Definitely not Inland Revenue.

🔎 The wording: “Be informed that tax refund awaits you…”
Not quite how we’d expect IRD to put it.

🔎 The urgency: “Verification is required within the next 72 hours…”
A classic attempt to get you clicking before you stop and think.

And then there’s “to validated your myIR account”… which isn’t helping their case.

Jokes aside, scam emails like this can be easy to mistake for the real thing when you’re busy. They use familiar logos, colours and wording, and they’re designed to get you clicking before you look too closely.

Our tip? Don’t click the link.

Check the actual sender address, take a closer look at the wording, and be wary of unexpected refunds, urgent deadlines or requests to confirm personal or banking details.

If an email from “IRD” doesn’t feel quite right, head to myIR yourself through the official Inland Revenue website rather than using the link in the email.

A few extra seconds of checking can save a pretty big headache. 🕵️‍♀️

First provisional tax payment coming up?

If you're wondering how you're going to pay your upcoming tax bill, you're not alone.

You may have more payment options than you think, including:
✔️ Paying Inland Revenue by the due date.
✔️ Setting up an instalment arrangement.
✔️ Using tax pooling, which may provide extra time to pay and help reduce interest costs.

The key is not to wait until the due date. The earlier you get in touch, the more options that are likely to be available.
