The best accountants can do much more than just tax and compliance work for your business. They’re troubleshooters and strategic advisors for small business. Basically, having an accountant means that you can operate your business with more clarity and confidence.

Not sure what an accountant can do for your business? Well, the right accountant will do a lot more than just help with your tax returns! Your accountant should be a trusted business advisor, helping you lead with more confidence.

Today the Government announced a temporary change to the in-work tax credit (IWTC) rate for the period 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027 or until the price of 91 petrol is below $3 per litre for four consecutive weeks (whichever is earliest).

The rate will increase by $50 a week (from $97 to $147 a week) for those who are eligible for the full amount of the in-work tax credit.

If you already receive the in-work tax credit, you will automatically get this increase. The first payment with the increased rate will be 7 April for weekly payments and 14 April for fortnightly payments.

You do not need to contact us.

If you currently receive your IWTC payments at the end of the year, you can change this to weekly or fortnightly in myIR. If you keep your payments the same, you will still receive the increased entitlement that you are eligible for at the end of the year

🎄 10 Pre-Christmas Cashflow Tips for Kiwi Households & Businesses 💸

As the festive season approaches, it’s easy to get swept up in the spending spirit. Whether you're running a business or managing your household budget, here are 10 smart cashflow tips to help you stay financially steady through Christmas and into the New Year:

Forecast Your Spending
List all expected expenses—gifts, travel, staff bonuses, holiday events—and compare them to your income.

Set a Holiday Budget
Allocate a realistic amount for Christmas spending and stick to it. Avoid impulse purchases!

Invoice Early
If you're in business, send invoices out promptly to improve your chances of getting paid before the break.

Follow Up on Outstanding Payments
Don’t let unpaid invoices linger. A friendly reminder now can mean better cashflow later.

Delay Non-Essential Purchases
Hold off on big buys until the New Year unless they’re urgent or offer significant savings.

Stock Smart
Retailers: avoid overstocking. Use last year’s data to guide your inventory decisions.

Plan for January
January can be quiet for income but busy for bills. Set aside funds now to cover early-year expenses.

Use Layby or Payment Plans
Spread the cost of gifts or supplies over time to ease the pressure on your December budget.

Review Subscriptions & Services
Cancel or pause anything you won’t use over the holidays—every dollar counts.

Talk to Your Accountant
We’re here to help! A quick chat can uncover ways to improve your cashflow and reduce stress.
