Nanny red flags? Spot them before you sign anything. 🚩

The good ones are upfront about availability, pay, references, all of it, no dodging. The dodgy ones? Vague on hours, "we'll sort a contract later," and suddenly go quiet the second pay comes up.

Trust your gut, but back it up with the paperwork.

What's a red flag that would send you running? Tell us below 👇

Happy (almost!) spring from all of us at Pay The Nanny 🌱

Mark started this business back in 2019 because he kept seeing the same thing: families hiring a nanny or au pair, then getting stuck trying to figure out payroll, leave and all the compliance stuff nobody warns you about.

Fast forward a few years, and what began as one guy trying to solve a problem for Kiwi families has turned into a proper team, now looking after payroll, tax, super, KiwiSaver and leave for families across New Zealand and Australia.

None of that happens without the families who've trusted us along the way, so genuinely, thank you.

Wishing you all a good one this spring 💛

Whether you're a nanny walking into your dream interview, or a family meeting your next superstar, that first conversation matters. 🤝

A few things that make the biggest difference:
→ Come with real examples, not just qualifications
→ Ask open questions that let the other person actually talk
→ Get clear on expectations early, hours, duties, pay

And once you've found the right fit, sorting payroll properly from day one is one of the easiest ways to build trust on both sides.

August through October is peak au pair season here in NZ. If you're hosting for the first time (or the fifth), it's easy to get swept up in the excitement and forget the practical side.

Here's the thing: the moment your au pair starts, you're their employer. That means an employment agreement, a proper pay cycle, ACC, all the same responsibilities as hiring a nanny.

We've put together a full 2026 guide covering pay rates, board and lodgings deductions, and what you need to have sorted before your au pair arrives.

We take care of the payroll and compliance side, so you can actually enjoy welcoming someone new into your home.

Need a hand getting set up before your au pair arrives? Get in touch, we make it easy ✨️

Hiring a nanny means becoming an employer, wherever you are 💜

In NZ that's PAYE, ACC and KiwiSaver through IRD. In Australia it's PAYE, super and workers' comp through the ATO. Either way, we handle it so you don't have to. 🇦🇺🇳🇿

📢 Payday Super is now live.

From 1 July 2026, employers in Australia are required to pay eligible employees' superannuation at the same time as their wages, rather than quarterly.

If you employ a nanny, this is an important change that may affect how you manage payroll and cash flow.

We've put together a guide explaining what Payday Super means, who it applies to, and what you need to do.

The Fair Work Commission's updated Miscellaneous Award rates came into effect on 1 July 2026.

If you employ a nanny or other household employee under the Miscellaneous Award, now is a good time to review your pay rates and payroll setup to ensure you're meeting your obligations under the updated award.

If you're unsure whether the changes apply to your employee, or you'd like a hand reviewing your payroll, our team is always happy to help.
