If you are a salary or wage earner in New Zealand you will fall into 1 of 3 categories:

+ Category 1: No extra information required – auto assess tax bill or refund processed by IRD
IRD’s criteria for category 1 is based on past history – it doesn’t take into account things that may have changed over the last tax year. IRD leave it to you to inform them and there are a number of criteria that can change you being in this category. If you don’t advise them of these changes this could result in penalties, interest, having to pay more or having to repay back refunded amounts.

If you have a tax bill (for many this will be a first) – we will make sure that it is correct and if there is anything that can be done to reduce it. We will inform you of why the tax bill occurred and how to stop it happening again. For these services there will be a flat fee of $29 plus GST (that’s it). If we find that you do not fall into this category, we will inform you and get you changed to Category 2 or 3.

+ Category 2: More information required – submit to IRD
IRD requires more information from you. We will check, consult you and then act in your best interests. This will save you time and make sure everything is done correctly. The fee this service will remain the same as prior years.

If you have a tax bill – we will make sure that it is correct and if there is anything that can be done to reduce it. We will inform you of why the tax bill occurred and how to stop it happening again. For this there will be a flat fee of only $29 plus GST.

There are many factors that can change the outcomes above – our online application will ensure that you are getting the best result either way and that you are compliant with IRD. IRD hold you responsible to make sure you know and have declared everything. If we find that you do not fall into this category, we will inform IRD and get you changed to Category 1 or 3.

+ Category 3: IR3 filer – withholding payments, income/schedular payments, rental income, other incomes sources and reasons to be declared.

IRD requires you to file an IR3 – again we will check to see why and if you need to, consult you and act from there. Fees for this will remain as in past years. Our simple online application will ensure that you are getting the best result either way and that you are compliant with IRD. IRD hold you responsible to make sure you know and have declared everything. If we find that you do not fall into this category, we will inform IRD and get you changed to Category 1 or 2.

Our simple online application will ensure that you are compliant giving you peace of mind, limiting any shocks in the future. We will be your point of contact for the year in all tax matters. No waiting on hold for hours with IRD. A quick email or call to us and it’s sorted. Giving you an affordable option for tax matters other than having to personally contact IRD. Think you might have a tax refund waiting for you? Or, think you have received a bigger tax bill than expected? The information that IRD hold may be incorrect, or there may be an issue that needs to be resolved with IRD. IRD hold you responsible to make sure you know and have declared everything. Don’t worry, we can have a look and sort it out!

Due to the 2019 law change, IRD requires you to confirm and check the details they hold regarding your 2020 tax year. This needs to be done within the required timeframe before they will process your tax refund or tax bill. Its best to do this now, so that if you have a tax bill you can make a payment plan. Most people need to pay their tax by 7 February, but if you were linked with us before IRD requested more information you may get an extension of time until 7 April.

You may have heard that IRD and the Government have passed a law that will allow them to automatically assess all New Zealand Salary and Wage earners. If they feel that they have the correct information, they will then proceed with issuing a tax refund or tax bill. This came into effect from April 1st 2019.

Due to the law change, gone are the days or just cherry picking a year, getting a refund and not working about whether you underpaid your tax in other years, or putting your head in the sand by not declaring everything you are required to by law.
Because of this change, we are altering the services we offer to become more of a Personal Tax Advisory service to help salary and wage earners in New Zealand. We can make sure that you are compliant with IRD and have another affordable option for tax matters other than having to contact IRD.

Changes to Working for Families in-work tax credit

Changes to the in-work tax credit (IWTC) come into effect next month, removing the requirement for working families to work a minimum number of hours.

From 1 July, the IWTC will be available to eligible families who are not receiving an income-tested benefit or student allowance and have some income from paid work each week.

Currently sole parents must work a minimum of 20 hours per week, and couples a minimum of 30 hours per week between them, in order to be eligible for the IWTC payment.

The IWTC is a payment of up to $72.50 per week ($3,770 per year) to working families for the first three children and up to $15 extra a week for each additional child.

If a family is already receiving Working for Families payments and will be entitled to the IWTC from 1 July, they don’t need to do anything. Inland Revenue will pay the IWTC automatically and they’ll receive a notice in July showing how much they’ll get and when the payment will be made.

Families not currently receiving Working for Families payments, including the IWTC, can check eligibility and apply on our website or by calling us on 04 4991101.
