After many years of service, John Murphy is retiring from the Accounting Practice.

As of 1st November 2025, Karina Arrowsmith has joined the existing Directors/Shareholders in the business.

Karina has been an integral part of the team for several years prior and brings a wealth of experience, professionalism, and dedication to client service.

She will join current Directors/Shareholders Raelene Shee and Sue Nisbett-McColl. They will remain committed to providing the same high standard of personalised accounting and business support you have come to expect.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank John for his many years of leadership and contribution to the business and we wish him the best on his retirement.

Audit Services will continue as per normal from John and Emma.

Due to this change of ownership, Smart Business Centre Motueka Ltd has now been rebranded to Real Key Accounting Solutions Ltd effective from at 1st November 2025.

You will notice new signage over the next few weeks and also our email contacts will slightly change, all our phone numbers will stay the same.

Xero Plan and Price Changes

As previously mentioned, Xero notified us with some plan and price changes at the beginning of the year that were happening in stages over this year. The first changes were applied in February, and the final adjustments will take effect from September. You will see these updates on your next invoice. (Prices listed below include GST.)
GST Cashbook is no longer available and clients who are currently on this plan will be automatically upgraded to Ignite plan at a new cost of $31 per month.
Xero Ignite plan remains the same at $31 per month
Xero Grow plan increases to $72 per month
Xero Comprehensive plan increases to $95 per month
Xero Ultimate plan increases to $108 per month

Last year Xero made some changes to how payroll was included in the plans. Xero received feedback from the user community that the changes were not quite right for some businesses. Xero listened to the feedback, and they are happy to announce the changes below.

The payroll changes will allow you to add individual employees into Xero payroll on any business plan.
On the Ignite plan, which currently doesn’t include payroll, you’ll be able to add payroll for $4.60 per person, per month
On the Grow plan, which currently includes payroll for just one person, you’ll be able to add additional employees for $4.60 per person, per month
On the Comprehensive plan, which currently includes payroll for up to five people, you’ll be able to add additional employees for $4.60 per person, per month
The Ultimate plan isn’t changing: payroll for 10 people is included, you’ll still be able to add employees for $1.15 per person, per month.

You may notice some price changes on your next invoice if you currently have payroll as an addition. We have identified the plan that offers you the best value. If you don’t agree with our suggestion, please contact us to discuss an alternative option

Have you been affected by the June 2025 flooding in Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough?

If you have been affected by the June 2025 flooding, IRD can remit any late filing and payment penalties, as well as some interest. It is important you let IRD know as soon as you can that you are unable to pay tax by the due date.
You'll need to:
• describe how the flooding affected you
• ask for the penalties and interest to be removed
• have paid the core tax as soon as you reasonably can.

On 30 June 2025, the Government classified this flooding as a medium-scale adverse event.
