You don't have to be an extrovert to be good at sales!

For many Bookkeepers, selling their services doesn't come naturally. And sometimes, just the thought of making that phone call is enough to make things awkward.

But as Natalie Tolhopf- Sell With Confidence Expert reminds us, sales is a skill you can learn.

You don't need to be the loudest or most confident person in the room. You just need to stop overthinking it and start having conversations.

And as Nat puts it, sales is really just an extension of customer service.

Can you tell we're a little bit excited about JuicyCRM? 😄

We've been using JuicyCRM behind the scenes at NZQBA, and Kenn and Sandi are loving what it can do!

So much so that we've partnered with Heidi and the JuicyCRM team to bring bookkeepers an exclusive package that includes free onboarding, Unlimited AI, a website and SEO review, and six monthly implementation sessions.

Because better systems are great, but having someone help you actually put them into practice? Even better.

Want to see what all the fuss is about?

You know the drill. Client work? Under control. GST deadlines? Sorted. Missing paperwork? Chased.

Your own follow-ups, onboarding, enquiries and admin? Well… there may or may not be a spreadsheet involved. 😅

Which is why we’re VERY excited to finally announce our new partnership with Juicy CRM !

We’ve been using Juicy ourselves behind the scenes at NZQBA and, spoiler alert, we love it. So we’ve worked with the JuicyCRM team to create an exclusive package for NZQBA members that goes beyond simply signing up for the software.

There’s free onboarding, a website and SEO review, plus six monthly implementation sessions designed to help you streamline and automate the way you actually run your business.

We’ve put everything you need to know in our latest blog, plus a little video from Kenn + Sandi about why we’re so excited about this one. 💚

How much of your business are you holding in your head? 🧠

The document that still needs signing.
The email you need to reply to.
The discovery call you need to book.
The invoice that still hasn't been paid.

We carry enough mental load in our everyday lives... and then we bring it into our businesses too.

In this clip from Behind the Books, Heidi Wruck from Juicy CRM explains why the right systems don't just save time. They help take some of that load out of your head.

As Heidi puts it: "𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲".

🚩 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗱 𝘂𝗽?

Maybe a client's business structure suddenly becomes much more complicated.

Money starts moving differently.

You're asked to process something but aren't really given a clear explanation of why.

Does that mean something dodgy is happening? Absolutely not.

But should a good Bookkeeper feel comfortable stopping and asking another question? We think so.

DIA has just released its Accounting Sector Risk Assessment 2026, and while the formal AML/CFT requirements don't apply to every Bookkeeper, there are some valuable lessons in there for all of us.

We've broken down what Bookkeepers should know, what might deserve a second look and why understanding the story behind the numbers is such an important part of the job.

👇 Have a read, and you can also download the full DIA assessment from the blog.

Bookkeepers, you don’t need to know every app. 👏

Courtney Wilson from The Software Coach says one of the most valuable things you bring to the software conversation has nothing to do with technology.

You know your client.

You understand their business, their personality, their frustrations and what isn’t working.

You don’t always need to have the solution yourself. Sometimes asking the right questions and knowing when to bring in specialist support is exactly what your client needs.

Managing payroll for clients with shift-based teams can mean chasing timesheets, correcting hours, following up on approvals… and then trying to pull it all together in time for payday. 😅

With the upcoming Employment Leave Reform moving towards an hours-based leave system, now is a good time for Bookkeepers to start thinking about how their clients capture, approve and manage employee hours.

📣 A big step forward for Bookkeepers!

This one has been years in the making. 💚

The new Tax Bill introduced this week includes a proposal to create a dedicated Bookkeeper intermediary category, formally recognising Bookkeepers as a distinct group within New Zealand's tax legislation.

This is something NZQBA has advocated for over many years, and was a key part of our submission to Inland Revenue earlier this year.

There is still a legislative process to go through, and some parts of the wider intermediary framework are still being considered, including the 10-client rule and professional body membership requirements.

But this is a really exciting step forward for the profession and one we're very happy to see progressing! 🥳

We've gone through the 200+ pages of Bill commentary and pulled out the important bits for Bookkeepers, including what else you need to know about upcoming FBT and GST changes.

🚩 You're working through a client's accounts and something doesn't look quite right...

Do you process it and move on? Or do you ask the question?

Inland Revenue NZ has recently issued a Revenue Alert highlighting several areas of concern in the horticultural sector, and there are some important things for Bookkeepers working with horticultural clients to be aware of.

But we think there's a bigger lesson in it too.

Bookkeepers see an enormous amount of what's happening inside a business. That means you can often be one of the first people to notice when a payment, contractor arrangement, piece of documentation or process doesn't quite make sense.

You don't need to be the tax expert.

You just need to know when something is worth a second look, and when it's time to bring in someone who does have the answer.

Our latest blog looks at the IR alert, some practical things to check and why spotting the occasional 🚩 is another way Bookkeepers bring real value to their clients.
