The first New Zealand office based in Auckland was established in August 2014 by founding partners Nick den Heijer and Roger Thompson. Nick and Roger bring with them over 50+ years combined experience. Nick den Heijer leads the transaction services, financial reporting and outsourcing teams. He has particular expertise with the tax issues concerning trusts, property development and investment, trans-Tasman businesses, cross border structures, PIEs, CFCs, FIFs, amalgamations and other business restructuring. Nick den Heijer is a director of the Auckland practice and one of the firm’s founders. He leads the transaction services, financial reporting and outsourcing teams. Nick has more than 25 years’ experience as a chartered accountant. He has acted as a professional advisor to a range of high net worth individuals and mid-market businesses as well as larger corporates including those in technology, property, manufacturing, professional services, hospitality and childcare. Nick has a passion for helping clients implement the latest exciting changes in technology to improve the quality of financial reporting, slash compliance costs and become part of the real-time accounting revolution. The high quality real time information can then be used to drive strategies that create growth in underlying enterprise value. Nick’s specialist skill in business sales has seen him devise strategies and manage the sales process, resulting in premium values for many clients. He has also advised companies and boards on acquisition strategies that are designed to help companies grow with well-priced acquisitions contributing significantly to the overall enterprise values of the companies. Nick has also had significant experience in succession planning, designing structures that allow clients to retain an interest in an on-going successful business but without the need for the owner to be tied to the company on a day-to-day basis. Roger Thompson is a director of the Auckland practice and one of the firm’s founders. He leads the taxation, trusts and corporate administration teams. Roger has more than 30 years’ experience both as a chartered accountant and a lawyer. He has acted as professional advisor to a diverse range of high net worth individuals, small and mid-market businesses, as well as larger corporates including those in retail, property development and investment, manufacturing, superannuation, and professional services. Roger’s specialist area in taxation consulting includes individual, trust and corporate taxation as well as FBT (fringe benefit tax) and GST (goods and services tax). He has particular expertise with the tax issues concerning trusts, property development and investment, trans-Tasman businesses, cross-border structures, PIEs (portfolio investment entities), CFCs (controlled foreign companies), FIFs (foreign investment funds), amalgamations, and other business restructuring. Roger regularly presents seminars on a wide range of taxation issues and is co-author of CCH publications A Practical Guide to Taxing Property Transactions (all editions) and Fringe Benefits – A Practical Guide to Managing your Tax Costs (4th edition). Roger’s also advises on and assists with the formation and administration of complying trusts, foreign trusts, LTCs (look through companies), and limited partnerships. Services:
