Join me for November and my challenge to practice or teach yoga on a daily basis. I will share my thoughts and things like what is inspiring me. The challenge starts off in Sweden and practicing at-home. Here are some memories from walks I took after morning yoga. I haven’t quite dared to video myself practicing yoga.

The interview between and inspired me to immediately read Monk Kidd’s latest book “The Book of Longings”.

I devoured 900 pages in 4 days!

And Ana inspired me to get my inner scribe out into the world. Please read all about the connection I make between Glennon’s closet office and Ana’s holy room.

What do Rice Krispy Treats have to do with your 2020 Financial Plan?

Come and join us this Wednesday 4 December @ 8.30 in Amsterdam and find out more.

http://bit.ly/2rJe1tw

In short, it's about making financial plans that:
- Excite you
- Connect to your emotional values
- You want to look at and enjoy

It's also about bringing awareness to stories you may be telling yourself around money. Then stepping back and nicely asking your self if you want more or less of these stories in your life.

Rice Krispy Treats are a BIG part of my financial plans for 2020....mostly because they are a key ingredient in the stories I have been telling myself around money since I was standing next to my mother baking in her kitchen.

Creating a 2020 Financial Plan you Enjoy

Resolutions; It’s that time of year again.

But...I don’t believe in resolutions.

I believe in looking back on what I did & didn’t like about the previous year to reflect. I believe in imagining exactly what I want next year to look and feel like so I get as specific as possible.

In this session, we’ll look into what you want your 2020 to look like:

- How do I want to feel when I wake up in the morning?
- What do I want to see when I get home at the end of the day?
- How do I want to recharge and rest?
- Who do I want to have fun with?
- Are you getting ready for a new chapter in your life? Or maybe you are considering a new chapter and just the idea of it is overwhelming?

Whether you’re quitting your job to be a full time entrepreneur, going through a divorce, or anything between, standing at the beginning of a new chapter and a new year can feel overwhelming with possibilities.

During this session, I will cover:

- Visualization
- Small group break-out
- Overview of resources to track your budget.

I am exploring new opportunities to increase my income.

It means generating a lot of first impressions, self promotion, and rejection.

I want to focus on one (of many) money story that this is triggering.

Story:
"Well done! You did your best! You deserve a reward. What do you want to buy?"

This is very conscious messaging going on in my head after interviews. It's an upgrade from what I used to do after interviews - microscopic analysis and replaying of the minutiae of the dialogue followed by a play by play of what I said 'right' and 'wrong'.

Soooo not helpful and such a waste of energy.

But is buying myself a reward really an improvement?

It is essentially an empty distraction.

It's about sufficiency.

In "The Soul of Money", Lynne Twist writes:

"Sufficiency is a context we bring forth from within that reminds us that if we look around us and within ourselves, we will find what we need."

Buying an expensive coffee or new shirt is merely a distraction & consumption with a monetary audit trail. Does buying a new scarf make me feel better than consuming an hour of Netflix?

Am I looking for a dopamine hit?

Am I looking for a souvenir?

Why do I want to buy something in reaction to something positive happening?

Why do I tend to buy more when I am in a good mood than when I am in a bad mood?

Twist also writes:

"I suggest that if you are willing to let go, let go of the chase to acquire or accumulate always more and let go of that way of perceiving the world, then you can take all that energy and attention and invest it in what you have."

Let's Assume:
- I did enough today.
- I have enough of what I need.
- I am enough just as I am.

And so I didn't buy anything. I just went home.

And then the dopamine hit from my interviews passed.

And I am left tired, empty, and bored.

And then the impulse is to move onto the next thing.

So the reward is an excuse to bask in the positivity and extend that contact buzz. Good.

But it is also keeping me from addressing my tiredness...as well as genuine appreciation for the moment I am in. And appreciation that how I showed up in those interactions was enough - it's own accomplishment & it's own reward.

And also part of the 'letting go' is releasing control of the outcome - releasing control of defining what the 'win' is from these interviews.

Women ask me how I show my daughters what it’s like to be a business owner.

Answer:
I get them as involved as I can.

This Friday, I am leading a financial well-being workshop at “Relaunch Your Career” in Amsterdam.

Example:
I told my daughters I would be teaching a class to other mamas.

I asked them - What little gift I could give to them that they could share with their children?

Answer - Candy! 🍬

Big surprise

So they are helping me put together these marketing giveaways.

Are you a mama in The Netherlands looking to re-enter the workforce or change your career?

On Saturday, I opened Dorota Klop-Sowinska’s book “Career Jump! How to Successfully Change Your Professional Path”

and I don’t want to put it down.

The book has found me at a key time -
I am asking myself:
How to increase my earning power while doing things that lend to my strengths?

In the past, I followed the path of least resistance and followed the advice of others’ blindly.

It’s an on-going process for me to answer the question,
“What do I want to do for a living?”
&
Find a monetary match.

I oftentimes feel alone in not having a clear career path. I struggle with opinions - particularly from recruiters - that my career isn't traditional and doesn't neatly hit all of the search engine key words.

But one case study in particular resonated so deeply. The client writes,
“I feel that people sometimes get stuck as they fall into the trap of thinking that they need to figure out the exact direction they want to take. To my mind, it's much better to follow your natural curiosity, to experiment with different ideas. You can't process everything simply by thinking it through. But by following your curiosity, in time, you might just discover what motivates you."

Why I Like "Career Jump":
- More like a workbook - Culminates Dorota's favorite coaching tools
- Includes client case studies throughout
- DIY option to start analyzing your next career move
- Insight into what it's like to be coached
- Target Audiences: Working expats & Global citizens

As an American living abroad, it is so nice to read stories of others that moved away from their native country. There are different challenges and mindsets.

Thank you & Congratulations, Dorota!

I am half way through and took a break to write this. I will be sure to share more insights from the second half of "Career Jump!"

It was truly inspiring at the to hear from women in high ranking positions in organizations and corporations about how they are building successful careers.

Top Issue: Gender disparity in corporate boards in The Netherlands. Most corporations do not met the 30% target for women in board positions.

Direct Correlation: Reduced level of women in senior leadership & women returning to the workforce after giving birth.

Organizations don't know how to cope with the demands of motherhood. Mothers themselves don't know what to expect upon re-entering the workforce - from their own bodies & minds; from these new little humans they've just brought into the world; and from jobs & colleagues.

I wished I'd had support like the "Relaunch Your Career" Event to help me, my family and my employer.

So I deeply appreciation speaking to fellow mothers about money mindset and financial planning.

I am tagging the women and organizations I heard from at . I hope the women and/or someone from their organizations can attend the event. It is a great opportunity to find qualified women returning to the Dutch workforce.

RELAUNCH YOUR CAREER is a one-day career event for mums.
Give your confidence a boost, improve your negotiation & interviewing skills, learn about the Dutch job market, get inspired and connect with industry experts and professionals working in Netherlands.
