The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare was written about 1597, and its story revolves around Shylock, a Jewish moneylender who was looking to exact revenge on Antonio, a Christian who insulted his race and character while owing him a sizable sum of money.

He spent the majority of the play fighting for respect from his fellow citizens, which prompted him to exclaim,

“If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?”

This statement passionately proclaims the equality of Christians, Jews, and all other racial groups of people on earth. Shylock argues that he bleeds when he is poked and laughs when he is tickled, just like a Christian.

In the final lines, Shylock declares that Jews will seek vengeance just as Christians would. He has gained a lot of understanding from the human cruelty, and he will utilize this insight to exact the most extreme form of retribution.

Much like the human body can bleed when pricked, every commercial entity can have financial internal bleeding in their bank account, a condition that is invisible to the client.

Private individuals and corporate organizations that operate domiciliary accounts are unaware of the numerous, seemingly insignificant illicit charges that banks discreetly impose on their accounts.

To the owners of these companies, these illicit charges may appear small and insignificant every time they see them in their bank statements of account.

But in reality, just like "tiny drops of water make a mighty ocean," these small amounts of illicit charges add up to large sums in dollars or other currencies.

Imagine adding up some of these illicit charges on your bank account and they sum up to $10,000 . . . at the current exchange rate, it would be N7,400,000!

You'll be amazed with the results after performing a postmortem analysis of your Dollar account. The majority of these unlawful acts committed by the banks have gone unreported and unpunished.

It's time to take action to get these erroneous charges reimbursed if you or someone you know is at the mercy of your bank.

In Chinua Achebe's book ‘Arrow of God’, several proverbs are included to make strong statements that are not just intriguing, but also imaginatively infused into the story to capture the main theme.

The poster below illustrates one such proverb.

What meaning exactly does this proverb convey?

When you have a suspicion about something, do not just accept it because of shame, fear, or undue concern that taking needed action will offend someone else.

In recent years, commercial banks have been accused of neglecting to clearly explain their fees and charges, making it harder for customers to understand their products and make informed decisions.

Financial Consumer Protection is the term for efforts that safeguard borrowers from unethical lenders. It is critical and opportune to empower both the government and forensic bank consultants to take action to protect borrowers' rights, stop financial industry abuses, and encourage public policy reform.

In this day of chronic exploitation of the ultimate consumer, Borrowers' Protection from Unscrupulous Lenders should be an ongoing centre-stage dialogue involving government regulatory agencies, financial institutions, and users of financial services, i.e. customers.

Your Bankers may not like that you’re asking many questions of late; or that you have engaged a professional to examine your banking transactions and query some erroneous entries in your bank statement.

You may have thought it wiser to let sleeping dogs lie and not ruffle the feathers of your bankers. Quite thoughtful; but, is your bank also considering your own sensitivities and susceptibilities and vulnerabilities?

It could well be that you’re gripped by “the fear of causing offense that makes men swallow poison.”

If you or someone you know is a victim of this "financial abuse," please get in touch with Jasper Anderson Consulting immediately.

Thomas Jefferson was a passionate advocate of education. His life was largely committed to the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake.

He explained this in his letter to John Adams dated August 1, 1816.

In today’s world, the powers of our society of Bankers reside with the Banking public – the Customers.

They often are naïve, uninstructed, uninformed and unenlightened; – but do they deserve the withdrawal of their right to exercise discretion? No, they rather need guidance if not education by their Bankers.

They certainly do not deserve to be exploited or extorted through a cocktail of illicit charges.

If you or someone you know is a victim of this "financial abuse," now is your time to get the assistance you need to keep your business alive.
